When normal prion proteins misfold in the brain, they can form toxic clumps that kill brain cells and eventually lead to death. No treatments for prion diseases yet exist. New NIH-funded research developed a novel method to turn off prion protein production in mice. The approach might one day lead to treatments for prion diseases like Creutzfeldt-Jacob disease in people and mad cow disease in cattle. https://bit.ly/3zZbrTs #BrainCells #cells #ProteinFolding #prion #priones #genetics #treatment #disease #science #research #news #NIAID #NIH
