I bet you’re not over 55 and still in advertising - hardly anyone is. Tonight’s ‘Australian Story’ on ABC (8pm) features Lisbeth Gorr an applicant Thinkerbell had for their #thrive@55 internship program. Fast forwards 2 years Lib’s now co-host on Disrupt Radio (I join her 2 mornings a week) and this little film captures her experience as an intern. For more on Lib’s journey turn in to Australian Story tonight on Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC), there’s lots more about Gore. Thanks Adam Ferrier for sharing this. The Experience Advocacy Taskforce needs more high-profile people like you raising awareness that ageism is an industry issue. Did you know: · 5% of media industry employees are over age 50, that’s nearly 7.4 x lower than the Australian workforce average · The average age in the media industry is 32 years, compared to 39 years in the Australian workforce · Only 18.5% of our media workforce is over 40 years vs the Aust workforce at 62%. #ageism #experiencematters

Despite the screen industries filling our downtime with entertainment, joy and distraction, careers in these industries (and viable routes in) are far less visible than the productions they create. In this article, Cerys Evans, Careers Lead at Into Film, uncovers the breadth of opportunities in the UK's screen industries. TV and Film was the most popular industry on the ERIC creative careers app in 2023 with 50% of users clicking on TV & film content, yet only 6% of young people feel a career in these industries is accessible to them. Careers advisers want to know more about the screen industries, in particular improved LMI, employer contacts and industry-specific information hubs. That's where we come in! Find out more about: >What are the screen industries? >Industry challenges >Opportunities for all A growing range of opportunities is on offer to support young people taking their first steps in the industry and Into Film is proud to play our part. https://lnkd.in/en8VtEWg #IntoFilm #Education #UKEducation #PowerOfFilm #Literacy #Screenindustries #Careers

The ability of brands to make people laugh was in the spotlight more this year at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity than ever before. Not just because as humans we're yearning for work that lightens the mood and gives us a break from the constant reminders of just how shit everything is right now, but because the festival added 'Use of Humour' to the Culture & Context subcategory across all Lions of the festival. So, I was paying extra close attention to the work that cut through to our collective funny bones... and I want to single one out in particular. As the Monday night awards were being dished out for the Audio & Radio Lions category, there was one entry that was played in the Lumière theatre that had the whole audience in stitches - Otter for Sandoz Deutschland. I really don't want to spoil the gag, as it's really worth experiencing for yourself - so please check it out on the creative's website here: https://lnkd.in/gXgYsQUg But a huge shout out to the junior creatives (Nidhi Shah & Rag Brahmbhatt) behind this work, two impressive Miami Ad School Europe students looking for their first permanent start in the industry. So, do please reach out via their website if you want two genuinely talented funny people joining your creative wings. #Lions #Humour #Creativity #Advertising #Radio #Audio
Could it be this easy?

Making the choice to enter the creative industries is rarely an easy one. It can be seen as risky, unconventional and unwise. But these are real industries. These are real careers. I have such respect for people who chase their passions to build their careers in the creative industries. Here are three examples of Toronto Film School grads who have done that. Congrats to them and to all of our alumni making big waves around the world. https://lnkd.in/g5qvG95i

A group of celebrities have come together to champion T-levels, raising awareness of how T-levels bridge the divide between classroom and workplace, equipping young people with practical skills and real-world experience. Young people’s confidence is at an all-time low with just 7% believing they will land the job they want. The T-team is spreading the word about T-levels and the benefits they offer young people. A post-GCSE option alongside A-levels and apprenticeships, young people have a range of options open to them after finishing a T-level; from going into skilled employment, to starting an apprenticeship, or further study at university.
