The Monroe County Reporter was launched by newspaperman Donald Jackson Daniel Jr. in 1972 as Monroe County's first total newspaper. It soon merged with Forsyth's long-time weekly, The Monroe Advertiser, the newspaper where famed writer Joel Chandler Harris had worked in the late 19th century. In Forsyth, Harris learned his trade and rose from printer's devil to journalist. Harris would go on to become editor of the Atlanta Constitution where he penned his famed Uncle Remus stories. The Reporter has established itself as the premier source of news and advertising in Monroe County. The paper reaches more than 4,000 homes each week. In 2007, the Reporter returned to local ownership for the first time in more than a decade when the paper was purchased by a local corporation owned by Will Davis, Robert M. Williams Jr., and Cheryl S. Williams.
