The impossible task of cramming the five books of Monte Cristo into a 3hr film has led to a superficial whirlwind of romantic drama with no substance and siropy sweet dialogues. A disappointment since the filming and acting were for the most part of high quality.

Intense from beginning to end, with fantastic actors. Yes the plot is really dense – which was inevitable considering the length of the source material – but the film manages to make sense of everything that's happening, thus justifying the necessary cuts made in the original Dumas's story.

They may have well have given the movie a new name and said it was inspired by the book. Movie was rush all the way. They didn't follow the plot. Count of Monte Cristo is a masterpiece you don't just do whatever you want. If you are not going to faithful to the book then don't make a movie at all on it. Just do something else. We did not see any of the Count brilliance in the movie just a guy with anger issues with a lot of money to throw around. Read the book!!!!

Absolutely breathtaking. This is definitely the best movie I have seen in a long time. The storytelling is amazing, the actors have all done an excellent job. I think I have been transported by the images I viewed and was stunt by the ll the emotions it made me go through
