Shirley Li The Atlantic The Bear makes its own kind of music in Season 3. Episodes play like symphonies of images rather than conventional, plot-driven television. Jun 28, 2024 Full Review Caryn James BBC.com The Bear is a classic in the making. Jun 28, 2024 Full Review Dylan Roth Observer It’s beautiful, it’s harrowing, it’ll make you jump for joy and hide under a blanket. It’s the whole thing, the whole meal, with no substitutions permitted or required. Jun 28, 2024 Full Review Jean Henegan Pop Culture Maniacs After two strong outings, the third season of The Bear fails to live up to its earlier greatness overall, but it’s still worth a watch for fans of the series. Rated: 3.2/5 Jun 30, 2024 Full Review Justin Charity The Ringer The month of restaurant chaos depicted in Season 3’s third episode, “Doors,” is a return to form after a (somewhat) more relaxed Season 2. Jun 28, 2024 Full Review Miles Surrey The Ringer Season 3 affirms that in spite of all the anxiety-inducing moments in the kitchen or the self-destructive tendencies of certain characters, ‘The Bear’ is a series with a deep well of empathy for its ensemble. Shahania T Weakest season of the show so far... somehow it just felt so isolated. I love the interactions and relationships of the characters together but this season, most of the episodes were just standalone character studies almost. Which were great but not what I love The Bear for - its chaotic and insane found family dynamics. There was rarely much of a interaction between characters I cared about, but even then those interactions felt disjointed and purposeless. Majority of the episodes left me wondering what is the relevance of this to the current story?? One whole season of stretching the new menus everyday plot felt so weak when it should have been completed in a single episode. The whole angle of all the famous chefs essentially led to nothing as well. In fact, there wasn't much of the cooking energy/vibe at all except Carmy's weird obsession with new menu everyday which doesn't even fit with his personality shown so far from the past 2 seasons. He made them not do delivery/takeout earlier in the show because he knew their capabilities as a restaurant so now to jump to new menu like ??? And he told Sydney about not doing too much at once too because of their financial limitations so did he hit his head in the break and forget all of his own advice??? Overall, a giant disappointment of a season that just wasn't it. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 07/01/24 Full Review Dana T Every episode was dreadfully boring, not much happens, the stakes aren't high, and there's nothing to look forward to. I was hoping it would pick up or pick a direction, but it never did. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 07/01/24 Full Review Mikey M Look, the show has been phenomenal, but come on with this last season. I understand that some of the audience is invested enough in these characters to have an entire episode be a conversation between the two, but for multiple entire episodes to be flashbacks with no relevance to the restaurant at all? If the whole season wasn't dropped at once, I would have stopped watching after episode 1 (which was a whole episode of weird, choppy flashbacks over the same song for 30 minutes!!). Anyways, the show is a banger for the first two seasons and there are still good episodes in this season. Per the usual, Carmy and Sydney rock. Show just needed to portray more progress with the restaurant. felt like they didn't get anywhere new from season 2 through 3. Lets get a damn star already! Rated 2 out of 5 stars 07/01/24 Full Review Brian M The ideas conveyed were not complex enough to warrant the slow burn. Lack of narrative progression takes me on a journey that went from hope, then apathy, and finally contempt. The only reason I gave it 2 stars is that the filming style, interesting premise (though running out of steam), and good acting prop it up. I think throughout the course of 10 episodes approximately 1 episode of narrative content occurred. Narratively, the show is a zero. An exercise in giving the audience nothing they crave in exchange for, wait, actually nothing. They give you nothing in return for your time investment. Great show to watch while multi-tasking as you can zone out for 5 minutes and miss only irrelevant side missions that you're unlikely to be invested in. This show wants to feel fancy, but it's only fancy if you fancy having your time wasted. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 07/01/24 Full Review Miss J The heart and soul of the show completely vanished. No more "i'm sorry" chest gestures, no more meaningful conversations between the two leads. The quality of the writing in this show took a steep turn, probably due to one of the showrunners being mostly absent. The poor characterization and motivations of the character Claire was just annoying. Repeatedly shoving a character in front of the camera will not force the audience to like her. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 07/01/24 Full Review Christopher S Outstanding third season which brilliantly positions this stellar story for a fourth and (possibly) final season. It doesn’t tie up all the loose ends from season 2, nor does it tie up the new loose ends that developed in season 3. But that is a good thing. I have no doubt that our patience will be rewarded.
