Personally, nihilistic horror hits me as more unpleasant and depressing than engagingly scary. Such bleakness bleeds out tension, making for a remake that is merciless but also exhaustingly familiar.

"Meh, it passed the time" is pretty spot on for a 2 star review. Seemed to parallel the first movie yet somehow provided... less. Few tense moments of good sound play / design but you're not getting anything you haven't already seen in the first movie.
