October 11, 2022

The United States Capitol Police's (USCP) Hazardous Materials Response Team screened a suspicious letter that was sent to the Rayburn House Office Building and determined the envelope not to have anything dangerous inside.

Just before 12:30 p.m., Congressional staff reported the suspicious letter because it contained concerning language.

United States Capitol Police (USCP) officers caught two people who are accused of being involved with a shooting at Union Station. Just before 4:00 p.m., a USCP sergeant heard the shots at Union Station. Meanwhile, DC's Metropolitan Police put out a radio call for shots fired. USCP officers nearby quickly responded, searched the area, and caught two suspects near North Capitol Street and H Street. They also confiscated a handgun.

The United States Capitol Police's (USCP) Hazardous Devices Section secured the Capitol Grounds this afternoon by ensuring a suspicious suitcase was safe after the suitcase was left on a walkway near the Capitol Building.

After 3:00 p.m., USCP officers responded to the suspicious suitcase, which was near the Southwest Drive of the U.S. Capitol and Independence Avenue, SW.

A person, whose face could not be easily seen because of their clothing, was spotted leaving the suitcase on the walkway and then leaving the area.


September 7, 2022

This afternoon U.S. Capitol Police officers helped a local mother give birth to a baby girl.

Cheers could be heard from the Department's Command Center when it happened just before noon.

A Captain, K-9 Tech, Sergeant and four officers were on scene.

The mother delivered the baby in the front passenger seat of an SUV on Constitution Avenue, next to the Hart Senate Office Building.

Mom and the baby girl are both healthy. Congratulations from the United States Capitol Police!

The annual Labor Day Capitol Concert featuring the National Symphony Orchestra will be held on the West Front of the United States Capitol on Sunday, September 4, at 8:00 p.m.

The gates will open to the public at 3:00 p.m. There also will be a concert dress rehearsal earlier that day at 3:30 p.m.

Both events are open to the public and tickets are not required. For more information about the concert, please visit the Kennedy Center website.

Next of kin has been notified in relation to this morning's incident. The man has been identified as 29-year old Richard A. York the 3rd of Delaware. It is still not clear why he chose to drive to the Capitol Complex.

Just after 4:00 a.m., a man drove his car into the vehicle barricade at East Capitol Street and Second Street.

While the man was getting out of the car, it became engulfed in flames.


August 3, 2022

Two men who are accused of being involved in a series of armed carjackings across the Washington, DC area are facing felony charges because of the work of several United States Capitol Police (USCP) officers.

Just before 5:00 p.m. last night, a USCP patrol officer spotted a stolen Mercedes C-Class driving eastbound, near the U.S. Capitol, on Independence Avenue, SE.

According to law enforcement reports, the driver and the passenger were believed to be armed and dangerous and wanted for open cases across the region.

This afternoon the United States Capitol Police (USCP) arrested 35 people, including 17 Members of Congress, for blocking First Street, NE, near the U.S. Supreme Court.

The group of demonstrators went into the street around 1:15 p.m.

The United States Capitol Police (USCP) has been working with the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia on the June 16, 2022, Unlawful Entry case that involved a group of nine people associated with The Late Show.
