Beef roti was moist and tasty.

Doubles had perfectly cooked chick peas, and pepper sauce.

      Local rum shop Canadian style.

Be patient as this is a one person business.

The Caribbean is calling you to New West. I introduce you to try authentic Trini food from D Roti Shak.

Open for 9 years, here they know exactly how to transplant food straight from the West Indies to Vancouver. The curry goat with roti is a roti folded into a nice pillow and filled with curry sauce, potatoes, and goat meat that is so tender it falls apart. Doubles are a Trini street food, so common and popular that you can find a dime a dozen in Toronto, so much that they even have doubles festivals! This is however lacking in the Vancity food scene. D Roti Shak is a gem and an absolute spotlight for anyone craving real Trinidadian food.

Come for a lime at D Roti Shak.

Curried goat roti. Not great to photograph but perfect to eat!

My friends and I visited from out of state. I was apprehensive with how empty the store was but found comfort in the cleanliness of the store and efficiency the owner had. We had the chicken curry and the last of the oxtail. We wrapped it up for us nicely and we went to a near by park to enjoy. Let me tell you... that first bite had all of us gaping at each other with the immediate flavor our meals had. I'm talking about eating so fast you feel that heaviness in your chest! My goodness it was delicious and at this very moment I would love to have another bite of my chicken lol! If you're in a time crunch I would hold off, he seemed to be preparing it as ordered but if you have the time and the appetite please support!!!! Sending love from the States!

This is the place to get my oxtail fix. It's a bit on the pricier side compared to other dishes you can get for lunch but all worth it. Of all the places in Vancouver that serves oxtail with rice and peas, this is the most authentic.

They are also on doordash with a bit of a bump up compared to ordering in store.

Love this place! Coming from California with no Trinidadian restaurant at all. We were excited to try this place and took the time to come and enjoy some real authentic Trini food. Highly reccommend this place. The owner was very friendly, welcoming and a good guy to talk to. Big servings on food and everything we ordered was seasoned really well. We had a great dining experience. I highly recommend this place!

So recently went to D Roti Shak & it was a disagrace. We are from the US & was told they don't use credit & debit cards & only cash which wasn't a problem. In total out item came to be $88 Canadian dollars but the business owner refused to convert the money and said they only take dollar for dollar. My friend said to just take her items off and he claimed he couldn't remove the items because his boss would be mad at him but he was the owner of the business. He really tried to scam and make a profit and pocket the rest of the money he tried to steal from taking dollar for dollar. I will never be doing business here again 0/10 recommended.

It had been almost 50 years since I had eaten Caribbean food. Doordash gave me an incredible deal so I was looking around for something new. I hadn't even seen D Roti Shack before because it is a long way from my place and I like to order closer to home. As soon as I saw their menu I remembered that I had once loved "doubles" "goat curry" and "roti". I couldn't even remember what any of them tasted like. I called first to ask a question or two and even though they were busy, the guy took a moment to talk. I sent in an order based on what he had told me and when it arrived it was heavenly! The doubles were even better than I remembered as was the roti, the goat curry was splendid as were the potatoes! If you have never had Caribbean curries, you need to try this, some of the best food I have ever eaten..... I find myself suddenly addicted once again just as I was 50 years ago! Fantastic!

This review is from just prior to the pandemic. Came here for a family birthday dinner because my mom wanted Roti. Taking my mom to a restaurant is always a challenge because she's extremely picky, and given that it was her birthday, I was hoping for a great experience for her. This small, cozy hole in the wall did not disappoint.

The food takes a while to prepare, which quality food often does, but it was like home cooking. Very tasty. They clearly use quality ingredients. My mom was pleased and said it tasted like the roti she had enjoyed in Toronto in the seventies.

The young man serving us was extremely patient and kind to us. Great experience and I would definitely revisit this restaurant again, if I was in the area.

Love to go to this place for their roti. The roti is look good and fresh with just enough chew to it.

I had the goat which I seem to always get. Today a had a few too many bones but what meat I had was tender and sweet with just enough heat to the curry.

My partner had the shrimp and he wasn't too happy. Shrimp was chewy and over cooked, there didn't seem to be many of them either.

I would go back for the goat roti, creature of habit that I am. It satisfies my craving!

My food adventures landed here to try some Trinidadian roti. The owner was friendly and explained the menu items to us. I ordered myself a chicken roti and ginger beer. The ginger beer had a really good kick and took me a bit by surprise, but it was good. It is a one man show so the owner took some time to make all the food as we were a large group.

My chicken roti was flavourful with chicken mixed in with spices, bits of potato and creamy mashed potato. The roti wrapper is thin with a nice chew. The roti is huge and I could not finish the whole thing. I did try a bite of the doubles and I think the doubles is a good snack size portion or a lunch portion for a small eater.

The owner came out after serving the food to chat with us. He told us everything is made in house and from scratch. The hot sauce is actually hot and different from the usual hot sauces I have tried. I forgot the type of pepper used but the pepper is unique to the Caribbean is all I can remember.

There is free street parking in the residential area or metered parking at the front of the restaurant.
