Oysters on the halfshell fresh from BC farms and other famous oyster locations like New Brunswick, Washington state. I was v lucky as the oysters were delivered today from the farms. Varying from very briny to sweet, these were superior oysters. Our waiter helpfully printed out the list of oysters so I would know what I was eating. Most places quickly run through the names and I never remember what's what. Fanny Bay and Totten verge were my favourites. A generous side of shaved horseradish, lemon and homemade apple vinegar concoction. Server got a dish of white balsamic in case their vinegar wasn't acidic enough which I used.
Cream clam chowder was off the charts. So full of seafood and thick. Smelled wonderful.
Our table also ordered fish and chips- Fish was thick and moist. French fries were fresh and not greasy. Side of homemade coleslaw made w purple cabbage. V mild and delicious. Not mayo based.
We went at lunch on a holiday weekend and the service was v attentive.
Great seafood restaurant. Will definitely be back!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Leonard R.Hawthorne, CA62109110Jul 27, 2024
We arranged and where greeted and offered a table or the bar, we chose the bar good choice the young man shucking was l knowledge and friendly.
First round was happy our selection of Fat bastard Barchoise ( don't know how it is spell it sounds like Bear Schwa) & cloudy bay.
This was round 2 a wide selection of everything they were shucking that night. All where fresh and delicious although there where 2 that I didn't care for but the Kusshi was my favorite it came on our 3rd round was also a great selection with the Octopus. In between 2 and 3 we tried the lobster Roll not impressed too much dressing and veggies left us wondering what the lobster tasted like. The restaurant is very clean and organized the bar has an excellent selection of wines and top shelf bourbons. We had the Kettle Valley chard from BC and it went very well with the oysters. The huge disappointment was the where out of Fresh Scallops which Ed I had been looking forward to since getting on the plane in LA. All and all a great experience and if you are in BC maybe heading to a cruise definitely take in Fanny's for those lovers of seafood!!!!Helpful 2Thanks 1Love this 3Oh no 0 - 832882136Aug 17, 2024
Oysters, the tuna tartare, the side sautéed scallops and the aguachile scallops were the highlights from our visit!
The line up was lengthy upon arrival at 1:50pm, but it goes quickly as its first come first served when they open at 2:00pm. We were seated by 2:15pm.
It was quickly lively inside and the music was quite loud so it was hard to hear at times. But, we still had a great experience and I appreciate their happy hour offerings.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Aug 12, 20241 check-in
I was looking to try some Dungeness crab while in Vancouver, and that's when I found Fanny Bay on my search. They have a happy hour menu until 6 but unfortunately, the timing didn't work out for us. But even without it, the seafood prices were still pretty reasonable. I made a reservation for 7:15 on a Tuesday. We were in the area earlier, at around 6:30 and luckily, they were able to seat us then. We had:
-Daily Shucker's Dozen - this was four pieces of three different oysters. That day, it was the Kumamoto, fat bastard, and Fanny Bay. You save $2 by getting a dozen, as opposed to choosing your own, which is nice because I wouldn't really even know what to choose anyway. These looked delicious and my husband confirmed they were (I sadly couldn't have any since I'm expecting) but we definitely considered coming back for happy hour the next day just so he can have the oysters again. He ordered two sauces on the side - cocktail (which I'm surprised doesn't come with it) and a smoky chipotle, which was very good
-Grilled oysters (creole butter, panko gremolata) - these came five to an order. Since I couldn't eat them raw, I had to settle for these but honestly, it almost made me not miss raw oysters. They were plump, and grilled perfectly. I used some of the smoky chipotle on here and it was *chef's kiss*
-Dungeness crab (steamed with white wine butter, butter glazed vegetables, roasted herb potatoes, lemon) - this is calculated by market price and at the time, I believe it was about $40/lb. They said each crab weights 1.5 to 2 pounds, so you will end up paying $60-$70. This was pretty meaty and the butter sauce was good. However, they don't pre-crack anything for you and you have to ask them for gloves, which I would highly recommend because it gets very messy/oily
Overall, it was a good place for some fresh seafood, that won't break the bank. If I'm ever in Vancouver again, I will definitely make a return visit - especially to try those raw oysters.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - 173981325Jul 22, 2024
We came for happy hour on a Friday and ordered the lobster rolls, lobster poutine, premium oysters and regular oysters.
The lobster poutine fries weren't very crispy but there was quite a bit of lobster on there.
The lobster rolls were pretty good. The bread is crispy on the outside. Good amount of lobster on the inside. Not overcooked. Not too much seasoning.
The regular oysters and premium oysters were very different. I would recommend ordering both. I preferred the regular but my dinner date preferred the premium. It depends on your taste. One was creamier than the other.
The service was okay. Not the fastest and most attentive but good enough.
Overall the food was okay. Happy hour menu wasn't overly extensive but it did the trick. The price for what you get is also okay.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Iris L.Dallas, TX593315Aug 22, 2024
Food was delicious. Oysters were fresh, but the clam chowder didn't live up to our taste bud expectations (cuz it had sausage and potatoes on it).
Service was not quite inline with food quality. Dined on Monday with a few empty tables behind us, but the waitress never came and check in until we were done with out food lol we barely had space as the dirty dishes were not cleared out until we asked for a check...dont think this worths a revisit.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jul 18, 20243 check-ins
Price/quality (3/4): I've come here numerous times, and while the seafood was always fresh and tasty, my most recent visit resulted in what appeared to be food poisoning for my partner. Still, this was probably a one-time issue, and I myself had no symptoms.
Service (0/1): Unfortunately, the staff can get rather hostile if you have a medical emergency at the restaurant and you decide to call an ambulance.
Would I come here again: MaybeHelpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Aug 12, 2024
Stopped by Fanny Bay for happy hour and LOVED it. It is busy, but I feel like spots turn quickly. We were able to grab some seats at the raw bar and it was so fun to watch them shuck oysters and prepare food. Our server gave us great explanations of the oysters on special the day we went, and gave us a great recommendation when we couldn't decide what to get. Everything was fresh and incredible. I'd definitely go back in a heartbeat.

We were looking for a dinner spot and came across this place. It was quite loud indoors as there was a group of patrons out celebrating. Perhaps it usually isn't, but the day we dropped in, it was hard to hold a conversation or get the server's attention.
As we had never tried cherrystone clams before, we got one each. I can't say the flavour was memorable. Better just go back to trying oysters! The mussels were good but the fries were seriously lacking. Maybe we got the very bottom of the batch, but what was up with the length? There were so many tiny short fries (2-3cm) and it was dissatisfying. Also, wish that their menu had ingredients more clearly displayed (e.g., clam chowder does contain shrimp, but not noted on the menu -- they list even paprika oil but not shrimp?).
Felt like the price point was on the higher side for mediocre service, ambience, and food.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1 - James B.CA, CA022Aug 29, 2024
Happy hour oysters were only $2.00 ea, service top notch; oysters were awesome as was the fresh lobster roll and tuna tartare. Would 100% come back if we were back in Vancouver. Sit at the bar where they are constantly shucking and grating horseradish.

Came back to a newly renovated restaurant and it feels more spacious. Today they are celebrating their 8th birthday and got the FRIED OYSTERS WITH TARTAR SAUCE for $8/4pcs. Yummy delicious
Dish after dish was on point! They know their seafood well. Winner of the night? Raw Oysters and the Vongole or the Mussels and Clams??? I'd say everything. However, the least favourable for me was the fish Tacos - I tasted the pico de gallo and every veggie in it but not the fish.
Service is top notch! Will be back for sureHelpful 0Thanks 1Love this 2Oh no 1May 29, 2022Previous reviewEverything we ordered here was good! Shucked oysters, truffle fries (haven't had anything like this - truffle flavor was very distinct), paella overflowing with seafood, tuna tartare, sablefish collar, scallops and pork belly! Gosh all these are highly recommended. In fact, the food was so good I forgot to take more pictures.
