Our old clunker finally gave its last gasp.
We did a lot of on-line research to help us buy a vacuum cleaner. Have you priced them lately? It's a good thing we don't have kids to send to college!
At a certain point in the review process, one must take a test drive. We started at a place that was close to home & were surprised that a vacuum store would be so filthy! We were further surprised when the guy selling gazillion dollar vacuums was rude! I didn't even stay to turn the things on; not doing that fool's cleaning!
Wow. Talk about contrasts. We walked into Grand Lake Sew & Vac Center just a bit before closing and found a clean, well-lit place with a lovely selection of the brand we were flirting with: Miele.
Tammy was incredibly knowledgeable, friendly & generous with her time. And just to sweeten the deal, she offered to match on-line pricing. (The prices on these dream machines don't change much between sellers, regardless.) And then she extended the warranty! Be still my customer service lovin' heart.
She helped us figure out which model would best meet our specific needs & we laid the money down. We do not have a single regret about that, my friends.
I gave our floors a quick once over again last night & it was the dreamiest house cleaning experience I can recall. Who wouldn't want to give these cats a shout out?Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Albert B.Oakland, CA01Jun 24, 2024
We bought our Sebo from Bobby over 4 years ago and have had no problems. When we have had questions, Bobby answered them promptly. We had an issue with the belts on an old Bissel rug cleaner. Bobby found them and had it ready for pick up in a week. Great shop. Always friendly and helpful.

I've been coming to Grand Lake Sew & Vac for many years, to get my sewing machine and vacuum tuned up or repaired. I really like this place because they are helpful and knowledgeable, and keep your expensive machines running for a reasonable price. Fred, who works here, has often helped me. He doesn't just fix my sewing machine; he answers my questions about how to sew.
Recently I decided to buy a new sewing machine, as my old one is 25 years old. It's a good machine (Janome) and still works, but I wanted one that has more features. I went online and found various reviews that referred me to sewing machines I could buy online. But if I bought a machine online, who would show me how to use it?
I came to Grand Lake Sew & Vac and Fred showed me a machine and explained how to use it. He was very nice and really took his time. I know if I have questions or problems, I can take it back and he'll explain it to me. If I need repair, I won't have to send it back to the manufacturer; I can bring it here.
In an age when small local businesses are vanishing, I'm so glad to have this level of personal service. It wouldn't be the same if I had bought something online.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Sep 18, 2023
I contacted Bissell in regards to my less than 1 year machine and They gave me their info. I dropped it off and they informed they would look at it. Surprisingly they called me and said they would replace it through warranty and they contacted Bissell themselves. I met with Fred and OMG i was sooo happy. I thought they could fix it but instead they went above and beyond and contacted Bissell themselves thank you soooo much!!! You guys r awesome!!! I definitely recommend them ...talk about service!!

I visited Grand Lake Sew & Vac to have my old Kenmore Vacuum cleaner repaired. I was told it is a waste of money, also, that Kenmore doesn't make
good ones anymore. I ended up buying a $1,000 vacuum cleaner. My mistake: an 85 year old ( I told him so....) doesn't need that. Than
I was hesitant to get the canister or the upright. I ended up with the upright.
Pushing it back and forth 3-4 times IS NOT THE SAME AS USING IT FOR HALF AN HOUR, TURNING IT AROUND. Now it is obvious, a canister is much easier to handle for an 85 years old. DID HE POINTED THIS OUT TO ME ???? DID HE GAVE ME AN ADVICE ? NO!!!!
My mistake: didn't pay attention to the 48 hour exchange policy.
I just missed it.
There is a warning in the manual , that "berber carpets or hand-woven carpets are particularly vulnerable to damage by rotating brushes". I have both. THIS WARNING SHOULD HAVE BEEN BROUGHT TO ATTENTION BEFORE PURCHASE. Now I am stuck with a vacuum cleaner I will not use. I have to sell it at a huge discount. I already bought a Kenmore for 1/3 of the price, the same I had before. While the guy was pleasant, gave me his time, but not his advice, it is obvious he is much rather do a sale, than a repair.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jun 29, 2023
You know you've become an adult when you find yourself at a vacuum center.
Really happy to have this spot 10 minutes from me. With 2 dogs that shed like crazy, I needed to get serious about my vacuuming. I was also able to get my vacuum serviced with a turnaround time of 2 days. I thought the price was fairly reasonable given that I wouldn't be able to unassemble and reassemble the machine myself.
Friendly, knowledgeable staff as well.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 1 - Galen P.Santa Clara, CA07Dec 19, 2023
The guys running this business are A+ people and vacuum repair professionals. They went the extra mile to find a replacement motor for my high end Dyson cordless vacuum. Other places I called just tried to sell me a new one. They even gave me a loner vacuum for a few days - because of course mine broke two days before a dozen people were coming over for thanksgiving. To top off the great experience the labor cost was half what I was expecting.

After having a terrible experience with Michael's, and a sewing machine I bought there, I googled this place and went in to look at sewing machines. I was greeted by the owner who has 30+ yrs of experience. He made a recommendation, threw in some free accessories, gave me some knowledge and I was on my way.
The customer service here is A+, excellent! He answered all my questions. I highly recommend this business to anybody looking for a vac or a sewing machine. Support your local small business!!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Rita H.Berkeley, CA02Feb 16, 2024
I love this place. I live nearby and bought both a vacuum cleaner and sewing machine from them. I have had the vacuum, a Meile White Star, repaired a time or two here, and have always been happy with their service, The vacuum finally lost its will to live after 25 years, and I decided to replace it with the current model. They guaranteed to match online prices, and when I came home, I discovered a sale price at Amazon that was significantly less than I'd paid. I went back to Grand Lake Sew & Vac and they looked it up and gave me a refund immediately. These folks are true to their word and are excellent technicians. I ams o glad I can support this local business and so glad they are in my neighborhood.

I have a relatively inexpensive Eureka vacuum that I'd only owned a couple of years when the suction stopped. While it was tempting to just order a new one online, I really wanted to try to fix it first to avoid waste.
I brought it in and was told it should only take a day or two to diagnose and repair. When I called to check the next day, it had just been fixed and was ready for pick up.
Not only was the belt replaced, but it was completely cleaned and looked like new! I felt good about saving money, keeping the vacuum out of landfill, and supporting a small business.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Ceil T.Wilmington, DE1125Oct 2, 2022
Just under a year ago, I stopped by Grand Lake Sew & Vac to diagnose my it-stopped-working Dyson vacuum. They were very nice, and let me know it was the battery - no biggie, just need a new one. I ordered it through them, and paid in full ($120), even though they acknowledged delivery might be delayed (pandemic, ships, etc.). Not a problem.
Three months later, I returned. They went laboriously through the handwritten ledger to find my order, then said they didn't have the battery yet. The vibe was that they were suprised the order was even there. Fortunately I had the receipt.
Three months later, same thing, same result.
Three months later, same thing, same result. Never once did they reach out to me. This time they suggested they'd be happy to sell me a new vacuum. As if.
Yesterday, I went in and pretended that I was ordering for the first time. They didn't recognize me, said they'd have to order it. I walked away.
Today I ordered the identical battery from Amazon for $35 (so much for inflation). It just arrived.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 1
