Been for several meals at Song Huong. Can't go wrong with their BBH but they also offer some hard to find Viet specialty dishes.
Service was friendly and our teapots were occasionally refilled. Our waitress impressed our group of 6 memorizing our order correctly without writing anything down. Debit/cash only.
We shared banh loc tom thit goi la chuoi ($9.75), banh cuon cha lua banh cong ($9.25), bo tai chanh ($17.95), bun bo hue ($14.75 large), pho tai ($14.00 large), pho ga chien ($14.75 large), bun ga cha gio ($14.25) and bun bo ba mon ($16.50).
First time trying the marinated rare beef (good but a touch frozen) and pork & shrimp tapioca dumplings (chewy). The BBH is always a reliable winner. Lemongrass chicken pho and rare beef pho were both solid. The three type of grilled rolled beef was also enjoyable.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 1405072764Apr 17, 2023
Torn writing this review.
I've been to Song Huong before, I just thought I had an odd palate.
I've tried their other Specialty Dishes before (3 way beef etc...).
This time as I was in the area, I had to try their BBH. This is their signature noodle. Let's just say, it's not my Viet/Pho place. Their broth is watery and bland (lemongrass where are you?), my pork hock still had noticeable hair (I still ate it, mainly bc I just finished listening to a pod cast of David Choe being in the jungle and was thinking, this is consumable), I like blood pudding, this tasted super irony as if they didn't store it properly covered in water. The list can go on. The lighting was odd, I felt I was in twilight zone.
The positive, nice staff and super efficient. The chilli crisp oil and fish sauce saved my pho.
As I was watching a few events at PNE, I'd probably stick to the restaurants on Hasting.Helpful 5Thanks 1Love this 5Oh no 2 - Brian L.Vancouver, Canada03502Jun 25, 2024
This place has been around forever. I have been here several times over the years.
Big menu of viet classics.
Overall food is very average.
Bun Bo Hue - basically their speciality. Average IMO, but too salty.
Pho - avoid. Just not good. No depth of flavour, too salty.
"com ba mau" AKA 3 colored rice - really a rice dish with 3 grilled meats. Did not taste freshly grilled, but rather previously grilled and then reheated on the grill.
Food overall seems like it has lots of MSG.
The venue is dingy and grimy, dimly lit, and just looks dirty. There is a little parking lot alongside the building.
Service was friendly.
Truthfully the only reason I came here was because its quick and never busy when I go. Everywhere else I planned to go was too long a wait.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Elyzabeth P.Irvine, CA376495718Apr 3, 2024
Needed something to eat after skiing in Whistler and looked for Pho place. Pho broth was a little sweet, I suspect MSG..but it was hot and tasty. They have tendons, brisket and all the hardcore meat options. We also got Bún bò Huế, bánh cuốn, cơm sườn nướng and they were all done authentic Vietnamese style. We knew we hit gold when we walked in to silk plants hanging and vinyl chairs..throwback to the mom & pop Vietnamese joints of old. Prices were so reasonable. Family of 6 ate for $70 US or $86Can including appetizer combo #62!! We will come back next time we come this way!!

This meal makes me want to sing a SÔNG!
It's a beautiful foggy winters day and a bit chilly at 3 degrees Celsius or 37 degrees Fahrenheit. The perfect time for a hot bowl of noodle soup at Sông Hương. The bún bò Huế was exactly what I needed. I consider the small size to be a mini but they did not skimp on the meat. There was a lot and included 5 different types of it. The soup was hot and it had a tolerable amount of spiciness that I like. (I cannot handle the heat)
On the table:
1. SÔNG HƯƠNG ÐẶC BIỆT
BÚN BÒ HUẾ 香江特別順化豬手瀨粉湯 12.50 small
House special: Slices of beef shank and Vietnamese ham with rice noodle in spicy soup
2. PHỞ ÐẶC BIỆT特別牛肉湯 13.50 large
Special combo with rare beef, flank, tendon, tripe, & beef balls with rice noodle in soupHelpful 6Thanks 0Love this 4Oh no 0 - Nov 30, 2022
Wow such a yummy spot! First time visiting and got the #72, BO 7 MON to share. This is a feast of beef prepared in 7 different ways. It Includes slices of rare beef in a vinegar hot pot, 3 types of grilled beef rolls, beef salad, beef congee, and a beef ball. It is also served with a plate of fresh greens, vermicell, rice paper, and our special anchovy dipping sauce. You eat with your hands and make your own wraps! Such a unique and delicious experience. The dipping sauce is also out of this world!

I'd always remember to visit this place since my parents love this place. So I went here with my parents for lunch yesterday.
Their noodles are 7 beef are most recommended from the menu. I've tried 7 beef long time ago there were variety of food to try from congee, grilled meat and etc. Anyways, 3 of us ordered small BunBoHue ($12.50 each).
Soup wasn't too salty, but tasted better with some chilli oil. The portion has gotten much smaller than before. Staff didn't miss any pork blood, pork feet and meat toppings in our food at least. I want to become regular customer here, but reduced portion turned me off a little.Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0Nov 6, 2018Previous reviewI was out with my family on last Friday(Nov 2nd) and we decided to go here for Pho. The restaurant was busy as usual.
Spring roll (2pcs, $6.50) came out fast; however, our Bun Bo Hue(small $9.25 after price increase) took forever to come. The waitress was serving few others (they came after we were seated) and she forgot about our table 20minutes later.
We were happy when we got our food. When our bowls came, one bowl had long piece of hair (not pictured) and the waitress didn't know this. I was so hungry and didn't bother taking a photo of this. Anyways , I hope our food comes faster on the next visit.Jul 1, 2015Previous reviewAmazing food for the low price. It's one of the best Vietnamese food I've ever eaten. I usually like going to Hai Phong and this restaurant is very good too. The portion is big and filling.
We ordered #1 Bunbohue, #32 Lemongrass Chicken with spring roll and salad roll. They were all pretty good. As for Bun bo hue, it comes with variety of toppings including pork hock, pork blood, meat and Vietnamese sausages.
I guess sometimes this place gets busy with lineup. It was alright when I got there around 12 pm. Thank god there was a table for 4. Will definitely return. - Kyra R.Fernwood, Victoria, Canada33191May 3, 2023

The bon bu bue pretty good compared with the others in vancouver. The chef was basic though not as good as i have tried many times in the world. Pricepoint is good for large bon bu hue. Place is okay like other vietnamese restaurant. But this is recommemded for comfort vietnamese. Cheers!
