Women's Basketball Falls in Final Seconds to Mountaineers 55-54

LEWISTON, Idaho – The Eastern Oregon Mountaineers hit a last second layup in the final seconds defeating the Montana Tech women's basketball team 55-54 at the Twin Rivers Physical Therapy Classic.

Trailing 51-46 with 3:33 to play, the Orediggers mounted their comeback outscoring the Mountaineers 8-4 in that time. Macy Mayer started it off with a three pointer and Liv Wangerin tied the game with a layup. Soda Rice hit a three to put the Orediggers ahead 54-51.

Kelsie Siegner hit a two at the other end. Montana Tech's Liv Wangerin missed on a three and Weatern pulled down the rebound.

Bayley Brennan missed on a three-point attempt for the Mountaineers. Holecek made the go-ahead basket for the win.

"The girls played a great ame against the No. 17 team in the country who beat us by 21 and 16 last year. Once again all 10 girls played well," said head coach Jeff Graham

The Orediggers shot 35-percent from the field and went 7 for 27 from three-point range with two of the seven coming in the run at the end of the game.

The Orediggers were outrebounded 43-37.

Rice led the Orediggers with 19 points shooting 60-percent from the field and went 3 for 5 from deep.

"Soda Rice had a big-time performance today. Aubrie, Brooklyn, Challis, and Macy did a great job inside. Kia, Chloe, and Avery gave us great minutes off the bench. It's been a lot of fun watching this team grow."

Brooklyn Hankwitz had 13 points and eight rebounds.

Aubrie Rademacher finished with 11 points and eight rebounds.

The Mountaineers shot 39-percent from the field and went 5 for 19 from long.

Brennan led the Mountaineers with 13 points and Siegner had 11 coming off the bench.

Beverly Slater had a game-high 10 rebounds and finished with nine points.

Montana Tech play in Lewiston again tomorrow when they face host Lewis-Clark State at 3 p.m.
