The oldest of six, he was part of a family where toughness and integrity were the standard. Coming from a common Butte background, the son of a miner strived to make a difference in the world of mining by going to Montana Tech to pursue his engineering degree. But when a mining tragedy injured his father, Charlie had to drop out of college to support his family by going to work in the mines. After helping his family for a time, Charlie went back to college and became a hero on the football field and in the classroom. Whether on the field, court or in the classroom, Charlie represents the character traits of leadership, dedication, excellence and pride. Charlie is the perfect depiction of the Orediggers.
