Men's Track & Field Montana Tech Sports Information

Full Field for the 2024 Outdoor Track & Field Championships has been Announced

Nine Orediggers make the cut, competing in 11 events.

KANSAS CITY, Mo.- The Official final rosters and entry lists for the 2024 Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships qualifiers have been announced. Montana Tech will have nine athletes, accounting for 11 total entries.

Four Oredigger women will compete at the 43rd Annual National Championships in Marion, Indiana May 22-24. Abby Clark and Jenna Jordan, both juniors, along with freshmen Rylee Armstrong and Tyra Opperman.

Abby has qualified in the women's heptathlon (which was announced earlier this week, you can read about that HERE.) and the women's high jump. She enters Nationals with the number 2 ranking in the heptathlon (5009 points), and the number 14 ranked athlete in the high jump at 1.69m (5'6.5"). Both of Abby's marks were recorded at the Trudnowski Open when she won six of the seven events to run away with the Frontier Conference Championship in the heptathlon.

Rylee Armstrong will represent Montana Tech in the long jump. She will enter the Championships as the 7th-ranked competitor, putting up her season-best mark of 5.98m (19'7.5") at the Montana Open.

Freshman Tyra Opperman punched her ticket to Missouri with a monster throw of 40.92m (134'3") in the javelin, during the Frontier Conference Championships. She was able to crush her season-best throw by over two meters to hit the A standard. She will be the 16th-ranked athlete in the javelin.

Jenna Jordan will join Tyra in the javelin. Jenna enters as the 24th-ranked thrower, topping out at 40.42m this season. Jenna has been on this stage before. Last season Jenna made it to nationals and threw a PR of 42.75m which landed her in 7th place overall.

There will be five Oredigger men competing in Missouri.

Jesse Mecham and Cade VanVleet will both throw the shot put. VanVleet enters the Championships as the 7th ranked competitor, Mecham holds the 24th ranking. Jesse hit a PR of 16.08m (52'9.25") at the Montana Open which punched his dance card, and he will look at mark beyond that next week.

VanVleet had a remarkable outdoor season that was highlighted by the Frontier Conference Championships. Cade was able to take home championships in the shot put, discus, and the hammer throw. He hit new PR's in both the shot (16.91m), and hammer (55.70m). His 16.91m in the shot put gives him the number 7 ranking going into Nationals, and 55.70m in the hammer has him sitting at No.16.

Ian Barville has made the cut in the men's 800m, where he is ranked at no.26 going into the event.  His season-best time of 1:52.66 was set at the Montana Open on April 19th.

Freshman, Nicolo Lancini will look to add to his already full trophy case, when he competes in the men's triple jump. Nicolo, who jumped 14.82m at the Indoor Championships, will look to replicate that finish next week when he enters as the 18th-ranked jumper.

Getting his first look at the National stage will be freshman Adam Schrader. Adam qualified in the 400m hurdles. His time of 53.91 places him 23rd entering the Championships.

The NAIA Men and Women's Outdoor Track & Field Championships hosted by Indiana Wesleyan will occur in Marion, Ind. May 22-24.
