Sean Ryan

Sean Ryan enters his third full season as the head coach of the Montana Tech's men's and women's golf teams in the Fall of 2021.

In Ryan's second season, the Oredigger men won the Frontier Conference regular season championship for the first time in school history. The Oredigger men won all three regular season Frontier Conference tournaments in the fall and had three players take home medalist honors at those events. Ryan coached five men and three women to all-conference honors with Trey Hoagland, Sean Ramsbacher, and Isaiah Weldon being placed on the first team and Brady Cady and Jace Rhodes being placed on the second team. Tanna Campbell was named to the women's first team while Skyler Martin and Reyla Williams earned second team all-conference honors.

Ryan was named the Frontier Conference Golf Coach of the Year. Jace Rhodes took home Frontier Conference Freshman of the Year. Sean Ramsbacher became Montana Tech's second Frontier Conference Championship medalist at Banbury Golf Course in Eagle, Idaho. Isaiah Weldon also finished on the Frontier Conference Men's All-Tournament team and Tanna Campbell finished on the Women's All-Tournament Team.

In his first full season, Ryan coached the Montana Tech men's golf team to the program's first victory in over 10 years at the University of Providence Argos Invitational at Eagle Falls Golf Course. Ryan coached three players to earn Frontier Conference All-Conference honors with Sean Ramsbacher being named to the first team while Trey Hoagland and Emily Garden both earned second team honors.

Ryan was previously filling in as the interim head coach since the passing of Lee LaBreche in February of 2018. In his short time leading the men's and women's golf team, Ryan continued the successes LaBreche had been creating over the previous seven years with the men's team having their best finish taking second at the Frontier Conference tournament and the women's team taking third place. Senior Sean Benson won the first individual title for the Orediggers at the Frontier Conference Tournament and played at the NAIA National Golf Championship at Las Sendas Golf Club in Mesa, Ariz.

Ryan golfed for the Orediggers from 2012-16 under coach LaBreche and was a three-time Academic All-Conference selection, and two-time Daktronics Scholar-Athlete. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in Professional Technical Communications in 2016 and a master's degree in Technical Communication in 2019.

Ryan's graduate school project was titled, "Montana's Longest Drive: Using a Technical Communication Skillset to Design, Develop, and Promote Golf in Montana". During the summer of 2018, Ryan traveled the entire Treasure State playing and walking every golf course in Montana in an 87-day, 8,507-mile, and 429-over-par adventure. The journey was documented on his website Montanaslongestdrive.com which received over 60,000 hits from over 50 different countries.

Prior to his time in Butte, the Great Falls Central product was the runner-up at the Class C state tournament in 2012 and an all-state performer all four years.

In addition to coaching golf, Ryan works closely in Montana Tech's Athletic Department with Director of Athletics Matt Stepan on fundraising projects, season ticketing, and internal office operations. Ryan is the first golf coach working full-time in the athletic department for Montana Tech.

Ryan lives in Butte with his wife Sara and their dog Binx Ronald.
