Travis Dean joined the Oredigger staff in February 2020 as the offensive coordinator, running backs, and tight end coach.

Under Coach Dean the Oredigger offense has been on fire. They have been one of the nation's top-scoring teams the past two years, putting up 34.9 points per game in 2022, and 31.6 points in 2023. Over those years the Oredigger offense has been the top-scoring team in the red zone.

The Oredigger O has had the highest 3rd down conversion percentage in the country, they also led the country in yards per completion.

Montana Tech is Running Back U, and that is certainly the case under Coach Dean. The Orediggers have recently had 2 All-Conference running backs. Blake Counts ('21, '22, '23) and Landers Smith ('23). Montana Tech has averaged 160 yards a game on the ground, getting 4.5 yards a carry in 2022, and 4.9 yards a carry in 2023.

Dean played quarterback for Head Coach Kyle Samson when he was the Offensive Coordinator at MSU-Northern. Dean was part of back-to-back state championships at Hamilton High School in Chandler, Ariz., and was the quarterback for MSU-Northern’s explosive offense that ranked in the top of the NAIA in Total Yards and Completion Percentage.

Dean started his coaching career as the Offensive Coordinator and Quarterbacks Coach for Mark Samson at Havre High School in 2015 where he coached the Gatorade Player of the Year Dane Warp. After Havre High, Dean was the Quarterbacks and Running Backs Coach at Flathead High School under Kyle Samson. The Braves boasted the top offense in the AA and made it to the State Championship game in 2018. Dean coached former Oredigger running back Blake Counts when he set the Montana high school single-season rushing record as a senior.

Travis and his wife Tricia have two children, a 6-year-old son Bentley, and a daughter Tatum who is 1.
