BUFFALO GROVE, IL — Lake Cook Road is one step closer to getting an upgrade, as county officials have voted to fund the project and several others.

On Dec. 16, the Cook County Board of Commissioners approved funding for several transportation projects and initiatives led by the County's Department of Transportation and Highways (DoTH).

Among them is the Lake Cook Road project, which seeks to improve the stretch of road between Arlington Heights Road and Raupp Boulevard through pavement reconstruction and a reconfigured intersection at Arlington Heights Road.

Through the project, officials hope to create "more efficient mobility for all users along the corridor," which channels east-west commuter, truck and residential traffic to north-south interstate routes.

Earlier this year, the Village of Buffalo Grove was awarded a $500,000 "Invest in Cook" award for the project's planning and preliminary engineering. Now, the village will work with the DoTH to begin work on it, officials said.

The initiative is one of almost a dozen to receive funding on Dec. 16. All are "vital" and will boost economic development, build up regional transportation and improve quality of life throughout Cook County, Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle's staff said in a statement.
