Severe Storm Damage Hits Downtown Joliet: Fire Dept

Firefighters were at a roof collapse on Cass Street; elsewhere, there was flash flooding, trees on fire and downed power lines.

JOLIET, IL — A portion of the Joliet Junior College roof collapsed in downtown Joliet amid a severe storm that also caused downed tree limbs, flash flooding and fallen power lines, Joliet firefighters reported.

Joliet Firefighters Local 44 said Cass and Chicago streets were closed Sunday morning due to a building collapse, and residents should avoid the area. The city's building department was expected to arrive at the scene at the Illinois Rock & Roll Museum.

Extensive tree damage could also be seen near Juliet's Tavern in downtown Joliet. Sunshine Mexican Cafe on Scott Street announced its brunch buffet would be closed Sunday due to "extreme damage" to the building from the storm.
