NBC Sports: Ray Rice Will Appeal His NFL Suspension

On Saturday, Rice attended a New Rochelle High School football game in one of his first public appearances since the indefinite suspension.

Embattled National Football League player Ray Rice of New Rochelle will appeal the indefinite suspension the league handed down last week, according to NBC Sports.

The appeal, expected to be filed as early as today, will be handled by the NFL Players Association and outside counsel, writes NBC Sports’ Mike Florio.

Rice was cut by the Baltimore Ravens and suspended by the league after new video footage was published by TMZ of the February domestic violence incident between Rice and his now wife Janay Palmer. Rice was initially suspended two games, and entered an accelerated rehabilitation program in New Jersey where the incident took place.

On Saturday, Rice attended a New Rochelle High School football game, according to The Journal News. Last week, the school removed much of Rice’s memorabilia from its gym and hallway, but one retired jersey remains on display.

“The New Rochelle football program is a very strong program, and once you’re a member of that program, you’re a member of that program for life,” New Rochelle football coach Lou DiRienzo told The Journal News’ Vincent Z. Mercogliano. “Ray is a part of our family and a part of this program, and that’s why I’m very happy that he’s here today. He made a mistake — and he made a very terrible mistake — but I know the character of the man, and he will rise from this. The mistake that he made will be erased by the good deeds he will continue to do. And because of the good deeds that he has done, New Rochelle High School will always be Ray Rice’s home.”
