UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — A man was beaten with a metal thermos by a stranger in an unprovoked attack on the Upper West Side, police said.

Officers received a report of an assault on June 17 at about 10 a.m. in front of 1047 Amsterdam Avenue, near W. 112th Street, officials said.

Police were informed that a 52-year-old man was standing in front of the entrance to the Cathedral of St. John the Divine when an unidentified individual approached him, made anti-national origin remarks, and then attacked him with a metal thermos.

Police said the attacker struck the man in the head before fleeing to an unknown location.

The victim refused medical attention on the scene, authorities said.

Cops have since released surveillance footage of the suspect, asking for the public’s help identifying him and tracking him down.
