Uptown Subway Stops Included In Reading Program That Ends At One World

WASHINGTON HEIGHTS, NY — Two subway stations in Washington Heights will be departure points next week for a reading program that ends at One World Observatory.

Literacy Inc., an early literacy non-profit, is partnering with One World Observatory to present "Reading on the Rails: Cities, Skylines and Subways" on July 11, a reading program in celebration of the National Summer Learning Week.

The program brings families together across the city to share in the joy of reading on New York City's Public Transportation System, before converging at 1,250 feet at One World Observatory to enjoy views of the city and take part in activities.

Families will read, learn about the sites they see, engage in a number of interactive architectural activities, and receive free books from the publisher Penguin Random House.

On July 11, the 168th Street A and 1 train station, along with the Dyckman 1 train station, will serve as departure points from 9 to 10 a.m. for the day of reading activities.

Literacy Inc. staff will be present at the stations with reading materials and instructions.

"With endless summer outdoor activities; Literacy Inc. shows that families can read while they travel all summer long!" Literacy Inc. wrote in a news release. "NYC’s public transportation gives children an opportunity to read, enrich their experiences, and elevate their imaginations."
