Sofia Vergara makes barbed remark about ex-husband Joe Manganiello's claim they split over having kids: 'What am I gonna do, call him?'

Sofia Vergara admitted to Variety that she was taken aback by ex Joe Manganiello's recent remarks about what what led to the downfall of their eight-year marriage

Following the 47-year-old True Blood star's denial that his desire to have kids played a factor in their decision to part ways, the Modern Family star, 52, revealed the key to her happiness is not overthinking.

'When you sit too much with your thoughts, that’s when people get depressed and people get paralyzed. I always keep active,' she told Variety. 'What the f**k can we do? Nothing. We have to keep living.'

Her philosophy of not thinking 'too much' about a situation is the approach she is taking when it comes to Manganiello publicly refuting the reason they split.

Although she had previously stated that their relationship ended because she didn't want to be an 'older' mom, Manganiello claimed that was 'simply not true' last month.

'At the end of the day, you never even know if that’s what he said for real,' Vergara said. 'I’ve read a lot of things that I’ve said that I’m like, "Huh?" What am I gonna do, call him?'

Before changing the topic, the mother-of-one said she doesn't 'know if he even said that.'

Vergara was referring to Manganiello's interview with Men’s Journal, in which he  broke his silence over what led to them to them divorcing.

'There’s been a lot said in the press about me wanting a family. That’s simply not true,' he told the publication. 'We did try to have a family for the first year and a half.'

The Magic Mike actor also revealed that they 'had a huge conversation right out of the gate during the first month' they dated, in which he claims to have told her: 'If you’re done with kids, then I understand. Just tell me, and I’ll know what this is, and that’s OK. But that wasn’t the case with her.'

'I swore to her that I would never leave if it didn’t work out. And I didn’t,' Manganiello insisted.

While he does hope to start a family someday, the performer set the record straight that disagreeing over children 'wasn’t inevitably why everything ended.'

'It’s because two people grew apart, and sometimes that happens,' he explained.

Manganiello went on to express frustration over Vergara's previous remarks that their 'marriage broke up' because her husband 'was younger' and 'wanted to have kids.'

'To be painted as if I had some sort of midlife crisis, and after nine years, turned to somebody and gave them an ultimatum of, "Do this potentially unhealthy thing to your body, or else I’m gone?" That’s never who I was,' Pittsburgh stated.

In January 2024, Vergara told the Spanish publication El País that she and Manganiello called it quits because he wanted kids and she did not.

'I didn’t want to be an old mom,' she said. 'I feel it’s not fair to the baby. I respect whoever does it, but that’s not for me anymore.'

She continued: 'I had a son at 19, who is now 32, and I’m ready to be a grandmother, not a mother. So, if love comes along, he has to come with [his own] children.'

She and Joe announced their divorce in July 2023.

'We have made the difficult decision to divorce. As two people that love and care for one another very much, we politely ask for respect of our privacy at this time as we navigate this new phase of our lives,' they said in a statement, obtained by Page Six.

Only two days after announcing their split, Manganiello filed for divorce and listed their date of separation as July 2.

The reason for the end of their marriage was cited as 'irreconcilable differences.'

Following their separation, Vergara began dating Justin Saliman, an orthopedic surgeon.

In late October, she and the doctor were first spotted together on a night out in West Hollywood.

For his part, Joe has moved on with Caitlin O'Connor, who turned 35 on August 3.
