It did feel like the younger end of YA - Cress seems very young. But then that is understandable based on her background, being alone would make her more naive and less worldly.

“May all those who seek true love find it, and may those who stand in its way be cursed.”
This has been a cute series. Maybe a little too cutesy for me. Evangeline became a bit hard to swallow in this last instalment.
But ultimately, I love the writing, I love the magic. And sometimes it’s nice to get swept up into a world that works out so much better than our own. ...more

Laure has always wanted to be a ballerina. It is all she has ever known, she even ran away from home to join the Paris ballet school.
But however hard she tries, she never seems to receive the respect and appreciation so freely given to the other girls.
When she receives an interesting invitation from another ballerina to the Paris catacombs - what she experiences there will change her life forever.
Full of darkness, I was gripped by this story. I felt Laure’s anger and rage against the injustice she suffered. Her best friend who turned against her the minute the tables turned.

BUT we all know this about me, I accept early on that the romances won’t do anything for me, therefore I focus on the plot instead.
And the plot is great! Cinder manages to flee prison, bringing with her the hilarious Carson Thorne. Cinder tries to find out more about her past, and is hopeful that she can find someone to tell her.
Meanwhile Scarlet is determined to find her grandmother who has been kidnapped. With the help of a former gang member nicknamed Wolf.

I wasn’t quite as entranced with this one as I was with book 1.

I liked seeing how the clans had moved on, and all the new and old characters. I just don’t feel it grabbed me as much, it was similar to the story in book 1. That a larger enemy is coming for them and they need to find a way to overcome them.
But it was still an interesting read, I liked finding out why Tova was given to the sea & how she was able to change her fate. Adrienne Young is a great author and I will pick up more of her books....more

When girls turn 13 they are cut to measure their “purity” if their blood runs red then they are “pure” if it runs gold they are a demon, an abomination.
When Deka’s blood runs gold, she is tortured by her village elders and disowned by her father, the only parent she has ever known.
She is collected by an advisor of the empower, shipped to a new place full of girls like her. Where they are trained as soldiers, to fight against creatures known only as Deathshrieks.
As Deka’s power grows she starts questioning everything around her and soon discovers that those who saved her might also be out to destroy her.
Fast paced with a great fantasy world, I am excited to continue with this series. ...more

I enjoyed being back in Emberfall and Syll Shallow, but despite the excitement along the way, the ending wasn’t satisfying for me at all.
Grey and Lia Mara are planning war against Rhen. With distrust everywhere and attacks on Lia Mars’s life since she took the throne from her mother, no one is safe.
Meanwhile Lilith the demon enchantress returns to wreak havoc once again.
I like these books, they are easy to read and the characters are alright. I do think that Rhen should have stayed King rather than i to Grey. Grey has no experience leading people or a country, plus he is with Lia Mara who already had a kingdom?!
I just feel like it didn’t make sense to me. But I really like the writing so will keep going with her other fantasy books. ...more

I really enjoyed being back in Elfhame. All the secrets and betrayal and stabbing!
I will say this duology isn’t quite up there with the original series but it serves well as a follow up for your fairie cravings.
Oak is in love with Wren, but he isn’t sure if she has forgiven him. He hatches a plan for them to be together, but will she agree? And what about all the others with their own agendas for the throne?

That said - I really enjoyed it! I wasn’t that enamoured with Rhen and Harper in the first place so when the focus moved to Grey and Lia Mara I was interested to follow.
I didn’t love the romance. As always. But I love Grey as a character and watching him wrestle with his conscience and how he should move forward.
Overall I am excited to wrap this up with book 3! ...more

Roma and Juliette believed they destroyed the monster, but did they really? Meanwhile both have betrayed the other and are not sure if they can ever repair what was lost.
Loved the storyline and all the different characters including Katherine and Rosalyn. Loads of bloodshed and drama, I was fully invested.

Now, it’s been quite a few years since I read ‘They Both Die at the End’ and I gave that one 4.5 stars. But, if I reread it now, that might be different.
I can only go on what I could remember when I opened this prequel.
We begin on Death Cast eve. The evening death cast is first introduced to America, and the first Decker will receive a phone call to say that they will die in the next 24 hours.
There are several POVs but the main two are Orion, a New Yorker living with a severe heart condition, wondering everyday if it will be his last. The second is Valentino - who has recently moved to New York to start his new life as a model.
Their paths collide on death cast eve and the calls are made. One of them will die in 24 hours. They spend the next 24 hours together, and it changes their lives.
I know I am bitter and cynical now. I wasn’t when I was younger, but ya know - life. So the whole insta-love wasn’t great, even though one of them thinks they are going to die.
It was still very readable and I liked the other POVs such as an old man who receives a death cast call and numerous others with relevance to the overall story.
It was ok, just not like the previous book as I remember it. ...more

A gripping and fast paced way to end this series. Told in four POVs, Briony, Finley and Isabel are fighting to bring down the competition and end the curse once and for all.
Meanwhile, Alistair’s brother Hendry has returned from the dead, and Al will do anything to keep his brother with him - even teaming up with rival Gavin Grieve.
I loved all the different curses and magical elements, I still found Isabel a bit irritating - she whined a lot about feeling inferior to Briony but with no real reason for it. She got tiring.
I enjoyed the part that Reid McTavish played, when it comes out that he was trying to sabotage them all - they trick him into being stuck in the competition with them.
Overall, an enjoyable series. Real good fun, with a few sad parts thrown in.
