It's #WorldWetlandsDay, and we're diving in — take a look at "Protecting the Pathways," an initiative by Scenic Hudson and partners to study and help preserve the Hudson River's tidal wetlands in the face of sea level rise (SLR). . Learn about the Hudson's tidal wetlands, their fate under SLR (spoiler alert: it's not all doom and gloom!), and what you can do to help. >>> https://lnkd.in/eGHgT_gh

Update: our dolphins are sticking around in the east 🐬 After almost a month, we still receive locations of two of our tagged Atlantic white-sided dolphins. The dolphins were tagged in a fjord in the Faroe Islands, after which they went their own way. One of the dolphins initially headed north, then changed its course to the south, lingering around the Wyville Thomson Ridge. The other dolphin went westward towards Iceland, and seems to prefer to stay near the Iceland Ridge. The current tracks of this year's dolphins are quite different compared to the journeys of the dolphins from last year. It is possible that the availability and distribution of their prey are influenced by the time of year. However, one aspect remains consistent, similar to our previously tagged Atlantic white-sided dolphins: their preference for the shelf edge is evident. I cross my fingers for many more days of receiving coordinates from these two dolphins! #TOPLINK #NorthAtlanticOcean

"Dare to make the world a better, more humane place." Wildlife rescuer and passionate advocate for a more compassionate, sustainable and ecologically-responsible world that cherishes the diversity of all life.
Shark nets only used in Queensland (inexplicably, year-round), New South Wales (and some locations in South Africa). Over 85% of entangled marine life were non-target species. As humpback whale numbers continue to grow, their migration path along the east coast of Australia exposes these majestic sea mammals to significant entanglement risk (in addition to fishing nets/#ghostnets) as they run the gauntlet through the waters of NSW and Queensland. Two critically endangered shark species were amongst those who were killed in these nets. The scale and indiscriminate toll upon #marinelife is deplorable and indefensible. Nets do not prevent potential shark encounters, but simply provide a false sense of security and a devastating ecological impact. Technological advances and enhanced, scientifically verified knowledge of integrated and adaptive methods offer a suite of effective and ecologically responsible tools to protect human and marine life. Vested interests and political resistance conspire to unconscionably resist the widespread calls from the general and scientific communities for #sharknets to be consigned to the past and for the adoption of more humane, ecologically responsible, and technologically based solutions. #NetsOutNow Chris Minns Annastacia Palaszczuk Department of the Premier and Cabinet (Queensland) Premier's Department NSW Mark Furner Department of Agriculture and Fisheries (Queensland) NSW Department of Primary Industries Leanne Linard MP Dr Leonardo Guida Magda Niedużak
