Local residents of South Orange and Maplewood have been hoping for change with respect to New Jersey policy as it applies to acquiring a liquor license. There remains a high barrier to entry for new businesses who need to have the cash to acquire a liquor license. Alcohol harm costs New Zealand $9.1billion. Price controls are one tool we have to mitigate against that harm. Great to see NZ Police taking this action on alleged serious breaches of the law to protect NZers from harm. "There were multiple occasions of New World’s website promoting alcohol at discounts exceeding what is legally allowed, with Paulin finding 44 breaches on December 6, 2023 alone. The UK's Sheffield City Council has barred alcohol products and "low/zero alcohol drinks from brands synonymous with alcohol" from advertising on its billboards and other media. Consultation: Consumption of alcohol in licensed pavement areas/off sales During the pandemic the government passed regulations allowing hospitality businesses to sell alcohol for takeaway, delivery and to drink in licensed pavement areas without making changes to their Premises Licence. These regulations are due to expire on 31 March 2025. For the next 8 weeks the government is running a consultation to propose making the temporary regulatory easements for off sales permanent or making amendments to the Licensing Act to extend the definition of off sales. #licensing #hospitality #rotherabray Jo Soar Caroline Twist
