Monroe County Schools director of finance Chris Johnson made his first financial report of the 2024-25  budget to the Board of Education on Aug. 13. He said the school system has paid off its 2019 bonds and will now begin using ESPLOST funds to pay for its 2023 bonds. Johnson said the school system pays the debt service on its bonds twice each year.

Monroe County Schools has a purchase order for 11 school buses totaling $1,509,289. It had hoped to have the buses by the start of the school year. Johnson said there is good news in that nine of the buses are at the dealership and should be delivered by the end of August. Two special education buses are in production and aren’t expected to be available until the end of the year.
