The tribe listening to the chief.

Sitting is less tiring than standing and easier on the feet.

Around seven or eight thousand years ago, the chief of a long-forgotten tribe grew tired of sitting on the cold, damp, hard ground and came up with the idea of parking his rump on a stump. This elevated position was not only more comfortable but, he sat with his head well above the common folk as was befitting his status. After a rain, tribal members squatted on the ground rather than sitting to keep their posteriors dry.
