At halftime, things seemed grim for the Tattnall Square Trojans. The George Walton Bulldogs had seized a 14-6 lead just before the break, but a determined second-half rally ignited the Trojans. They responded with a thrilling comeback, securing a hard-fought 20-14 victory.
With the Bulldog defense focused on stopping star running back Antone Johnson, Tattnall Square Head Coach John Abernathy took to the air, and his quarterback, Caden Faulk, delivered.
The senior had a career night; he went 17-21 for 125 yards and three touchdowns.
After the Bulldogs took an early 7-0 lead, Faulk drove the Trojans down the field and found tight end William Stewart open across the middle for an 11-yard touchdown and a 7-6 game. The Bulldogs added another score right before the half on a 35-yard touchdown pass for the halftime lead.
From there, the Trojan defense stood firm. They allowed no more points and allowed Faulk to do his work. Right before the end of the third quarter, he found Ty Hunnicutt for a ten-yard pass. Hunnicutt was able to fight for the pylon, and with the two-point conversion afterward, the game was tied 14-14.
After a scoreless fourth quarter, the game appeared to be headed toward overtime, but a botched snap on a Bulldog punt gave Faulk one last chance with 54 seconds remaining in the game.
Faulk seized the moment and found Christian Weeks open for the game-winning 35-yard touchdown pass. It was their only lead of the night, but it came when it mattered the most.
Linebacker Thomas Union led the second-half defensive charge. He finished with 12 tackles, one sack, and a tackle for a loss. Anson Alcott added twelve tackles, and Hunnicutt had an interception.
The win improved the Trojans to 2-1 and ahead of a home game Friday night against the winless Calvary Christian Knights. This is their first season in the Georgia Independent Athletic Association (GIAA) after moving over from Georgia Association of Private & Parochial Schools (GAPPS) for the 2024 season.
