Critics Consensus

Broker skirts the edges of sentimentality, but is consistently grounded by Kore-eda Hirokazu's warm, tenderly melancholic approach.

David Stratton The Australian The film is also suffused with humour as the members of this odd family gradually become closer. There are some lovely, delicately handled scenes, the type of scene at which this director is adept. Apr 3, 2023 Full Review Paul Byrnes Sydney Morning Herald Screenwriters are always told to simplify and clarify: Hirokazu doesn’t hold with such rules. His films get stranger and more beautiful as they go. Rated: 4/5 Mar 30, 2023 Full Review Kevin Maher Times (UK) ... the stage is set for a quietly eccentric road movie that appears to be about the nature of families (a perennial Koreeda theme) but is really about the yearning for intimacy in the modern world of alienation. Rated: 4/5 Feb 27, 2023 Full Review Joshua Polanski Boston Hassle Broker is one of the must-watch films to come out of South Korea this year. Jul 9, 2024 Full Review Zach Youngs InSession Film Broker is a beautiful film that gives no answers to the big questions, only offers, and expects, an empathetic response. Rated: A Jul 3, 2024 Full Review Sarah Vincent Sarah G Vincent Views “Broker” never felt like a cohesive whole. It felt like “Shoplifters” (2018) with a dash of “After the Storm” (2016) and “I Wish” (2011). Jun 2, 2024 Full Review Read all reviews

MovieBuff I really enjoyed it but the R rating definitely isnt justified. At most it shouldve been given a PG-13 rating. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/25/23 Full Review Mr. Hollywood Very enjoyable and a nice way to end it without following the Hollywood cliches. All the characters make sense and in their own way you understand the things they chose and the way they go about their lives. Definitely an award deserving film. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Joe W I don't write movie reviews, if I do I post on Twitter. Which I did for this movie. Lee Ji Eun (IU) was the main reason I saw this, she's my favorite Asian actress & one of my top favorite singers. But I know some of the cast in this going in. I have to say I thought it was awesome. Acting, the score, the immersion, etc was a 10/10. I forgot I was watching a movie. This movie is underrated, but highly praised across the board. The awards it has received are deserving. I hope this gets nominated for an Oscar especially Lee Ji Eun. This is a must see. I will be buying this on Blu-ray. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/20/23 Full Review David It had a sense of sadness about it. The characters all had something that they had lost in their lives which drew them together. I enjoyed it. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/18/23 Full Review Kelvin G It felt genuine and there was definitely a lot that was being unpacked, perhaps too much. It was a tad long and slow in a few places. The acting was solid. It was more 3.5 than 4. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/18/23 Full Review Victor P The acting was great. Loved the cast, especially IU and Song Kang-Ho, and the kid who played Hae-jin really stole the show. But I thought the movie dragged a bit and had just a so-so ending. I really had high expectations for the movie based on the trailer, but it failed to live up. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/17/23 Full Review Read all reviews
