Dune part two is as good as a sequel can get. The universe is expanded, the acting and writing is elevated, and the story hits some amazing peaks. I am worried how modern audiences will react to what’s to come in the rest of the Dune franchise, but for now Dune has taken over as the franchise of the 2020’s

I struggled to come up with a rating for this film. On the one hand, I loved the experience of watching the film itself, and felt the execution was marvelous from an acting, directing and cinematography perspective. On the other hand, there were pacing issues and deviations from the books that I felt were subtractive to the narrative and feeling of the films. The very ending left me quite concerned for the direction of the next film. Overall, I still gave it very high marks because I want to recognize and encourage the type of film-making done here. Risks were taken with challenging subject material, and I felt the film overall leaned into some of the more fascinating and cerebral elements of the books.
