El Conde is a dark comedy/horror that imagines a parallel universe inspired by the recent history of Chile. The film portrays Augusto Pinochet, a symbol of world fascism, as a vampire who lives hidden in a ruined mansion in the cold southern tip of the continent. Feeding his appetite for evil to sustain his existence. After two hundred and fifty years of life, Pinochet has decided to stop drinking blood and abandon the privilege of eternal life. He can no longer bear that the world remembers him as a thief. Despite the disappointing and opportunistic nature of his family, he finds new inspiration to continue living a life of vital and counterrevolutionary passion through an unexpected relationship.

Película que en el fondo, capta el mensaje que se quiere atribuir a la vigencia que tiene la obra de Pinochet en el país y la cultura que ha dejado. Es particularmente grotesca y nunca antes había visto algo así (no necesariamente en carácter positivo). Buena utilización de referentes históricos, buena actuación y escenografía que caracterizaron positivamente a este filme.

What a delight to find some new life in the old vampire tropes. Did I say new? I meant fun. Bloody, gory, horrifying fun... but fun. I can understand why some viewers would rather not deal with subtitles, and may wonder why some of the story is narrated in English. There's a payoff. Nuff said. I can also understand why some might not care about a long-dead (maybe) dictator. Again, this story finds a reason and makes it work beautifully. I so want to find people who've seen it to discuss the great reveals and twists... but... I'll have to wait. Just know that this is a movie that begins with a wild premise and never quits working it or finding fresh surprises.
