Craig Mathieson The Age (Australia) As made clear by Once, music has an inspirational and transformative strength in the movies of Irish filmmaker John Carney. His latest Dublin-set feature is almost as satisfying as his 2007 hit. Oct 5, 2023 Full Review Tim Cogshell FilmWeek (KPCC - NPR Los Angeles) A very messy movie. I shouldn't like it as much as I do, but I do. Oct 4, 2023 Full Review G. Allen Johnson San Francisco Chronicle Resistance to this emotional, melancholic gem is futile. Theodore C Absolutely loved. John Carney can do no wrong and knocked it out of the park once more Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/25/23 Full Review Patrick D 3.75. Carney excels at sweet mostly-feel-good comedies with music at the center. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/25/24 Full Review Rob H Brilliant movie. Very enjoyable watch. Super acting. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/25/24 Full Review Terry H Good character driven movie. A feel-good movie that is worth the watch. Eve Hewson was excellent in the lead role. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/20/24 Full Review Kevin L Another very enjoyable movie by John Carney. More gritty than others (and more than I like) but it really works. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/22/24 Full Review Joel H Flora and Son is pretty rough around the edges, with the persistent harsh language and initially unpleasant characters, but there's a warm heart at the center of this movie. It's a story about the healing power of music and how it can bring people together. I was particularly impressed with Eve Hewson, who gives a performance that is quite off-putting at first, but eventually wins you over. And Joseph Gordon-Levitt is likeable, as per usual. While I don't think the songs are as catchy as the ones from Sing Street, I do think John Carney has created another impressive non-musical musical movie.
