Somewhere is a meditative look into the effects of celebrity. I would like to have seen a deeper exploration of the main character's psyche. Whether intentional or unintentional, he remains just as enigmatic at the end of the story as he is at the beginning. I would only watch this again if there were nothing better to choose from.

I absolutely love Sofia Cappola movies. This is a Hollywood miliue equivalent to the Michaelangelo Antonioni Italian new wave of the sixties. Akin to L'Aventura in it's languidness and expressive landscape. Added treat, the most gorgeous women, thank you Sofia. I loved it. The mystery is in the beholder.

Johnny Marco (Stephen Dorff) is an actor, fueled by fast cars, parties, and strippers. When his pre-teen daughter Cleo (Elle Fanning) is left in his custody for an extended period, he is ultimately forced to examine the aspects of his life that are important to him. Sofia Coppola's Somewhere is clearly a Sofia Coppola film – languid pace, minimal dialogue, plenty of lengthy shots, either static or with barely perceptible movement, and characters in search of something that may be beyond their immediate grasp. While her style isn't for everyone (the opening scene alone will turn many viewers off), those with patience will be rewarded with a touching story about the healing properties of love and the insatiable need for redemption.
