Tiffany "Rex" Simpson (Emma Roberts) has always dreamed of going to space, but life isn't going quite as planned. Determined to turn things around, she aims high and with the embellishing touch of her supportive best friend Nadine (Poppy Liu), her "doctored" application lands her in NASA's ultra-competitive astronaut training program. In over her head, Rex relies on her quick wits, moxie and determination to get to the top of her class. NASA program directors Pam (Gabrielle Union) and Logan (Tom Hopper) certainly take notice, but can this Florida girl get through training and into the cosmos before she blows her cover? Critics Consensus

Never achieving liftoff despite Emma Roberts' peppy performance, Space Cadet flunks out of the school of high-concept comedy.

Nell Minow RogerEbert.com Writer/director Liz W. Garcia plays it safe here, with a result that has no surprises but is effectively entertaining, thanks largely to Roberts’ performance. Rated: 2.5/4 Jul 7, 2024 Full Review Benjamin Lee Guardian Films like Space Cadet should feel graceful and light, going down easy like the many sweet cocktails we see Rex prepare, but this one is hopelessly muddled, a bitter first sip that proceeds to curdle. Rated: 1/5 Jul 5, 2024 Full Review John Nugent Empire Magazine It purports to celebrate the pursuit of science, but this film may have single-handedly set the space programme back a decade. Rated: 2/5 Jul 5, 2024 Full Review Keith Garlington Keith & the Movies It’s impossible to look past the absurdity no matter how hard you try. As a result, not only does the story suffer but the characters do as well. They’re all so thinly written and as unconvincing as the silly tale they’re handcuffed to. Rated: 1.5/5 Jul 16, 2024 Full Review Rebecca Johnson Film Focus Online The cast are good, the astronaut training program setting is certainly unique and there are some laughs to be had. The writing is what lets it down, as it lacks character development. Rated: 2.5/5 Jul 15, 2024 Full Review Troy Ribeiro Free Press Journal (India) A cinematic misfire that lands somewhere between the Moon and your grandma’s old VHS tapes of Legally Blonde and The Room Rated: 2 Jul 12, 2024 Full Review Read all reviews

Kari N **Spoiler Alert** I just watched this movie because Sebastian Yatra was in it. The whole plot is unrealistic, ridiculous, and absurd. It felt like it was stuck with bad glue. - **Can anyone just apply and get into a NASA program?** Don’t they check qualifications and evidence? - **Are there no legal punishments for fraud?** Where’s the legal consequence for a fraudulent person? - **Does NASA really lack expert engineers to solve mission challenges?** - **Can a person with a criminal record easily return to NASA?** How can someone with no education come back, solve problems, and go on a rescue mission without a team of engineers? No jail, no legal action!!!??? Come on. This movie is a general insult to a prestigious Agency like NASA. I know it’s a movie, but come on—show some respect to the audience. 👎 Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 07/22/24 Full Review Jerod S Man, Space Cadet had more potential and despite the laughs here and there...Roberts wasn't unleashed enough for it to be hilarious. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 07/21/24 Full Review w x For a dumb premise, it was surprisingly entertaining Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 07/20/24 Full Review Sean M Space Cadet is a fairly predictable movie, but it makes up for predictability with its heart. This isn’t going to crack your top ten films of the year list, but the message it leaves you with is worth your time. Tragedy can set you back, but it doesn’t need to define you. No matter what life throws at you, it’s never too late to pursue that goal you thought was impossible. I expected an overly silly film that would be eye roll inducing, but there’s no way I can knock a film that tells you to dream big and never give up. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 07/17/24 Full Review Dorian J It was poo. Poo on a slice on stale bread, served with a slice of cheese, topped with raw bacon that has sat in the sun for 8 hours and chives. Bon appétit. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 07/15/24 Full Review Katie M I really enjoyed this movie. It highlighted friendship, a joyful perspective, believing in oneself, team spirit, etc. Was it realistic? No but it was lighthearted, positive and really lifted my spirits. Life can be so heavy sometimes and this movie reminded me that it doesn’t have to be. I have a choice and can shift my attitude. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 07/15/24 Full Review Read all reviews
