Set in 1967, THE MIRACLE CLUB is a heartwarming film that follows the story of three generations of close friends, Lily (Maggie Smith), Eileen (Kathy Bates), and Dolly (Agnes O'Casey) of Ballygar, a hard-knocks community in Dublin, who have one tantalizing dream: to win a pilgrimage to the sacred French town of Lourdes, that place of miracles that draws millions of visitors each year. When the chance to win presents itself, the women seize it. However, just before their trip, their old friend Chrissie (Laura Linney) arrives in Ballygar for her mother's funeral, dampening their good mood and well-laid plans. The women secure tickets and set out on the journey that they hope will change their lives, with Chrissie, a skeptical traveler, joining in place of her mother. The glamor and sophistication of Chrissie, who has just returned from a nearly 40-year exile in the United States, are not her only distancing traits: Old wounds are reopened along the way, forcing the women to confront their pasts even as they travel in search of a miracle. Their shared traumas can only be healed by the curative power of love and friendship. Read More Read Less

Wendy Ide Observer (UK) It’s trite and predictable stuff: the laughs are forced; the pathos is over-stewed. Rated: 2/5 Oct 15, 2023 Full Review Clarisse Loughrey Independent (UK) While there’s nothing outrightly stereotypical here, The Miracle Club suffers from being both sentimental and superficial. It’s exactly the sort of film you suspect was made to cater to American, rather than Irish tastes. Rated: 2/5 Oct 14, 2023 Full Review John Nugent Empire Magazine Some likeable performances — and solid Irish accents — can’t save a dreary parade of clichés. Pray that the Lord forgives these cinematic sins. Rated: 2/5 Oct 13, 2023 Full Review John Serba Decider The Miracle Club is far from miraculous, but Linney, Smith and Bates share just enough chemistry to justify a watch, especially for admirers of their work. Mar 28, 2024 Full Review Eddie Harrison film-authority.com ...the kind of film that critics generally ignore, ridicule or damn with faint praise…yet treats both religious belief and agnosticism with equal respect… Rated: 4/5 Jan 18, 2024 Full Review Sarah Boslaugh TheArtsStl ...forces Maggie Smith, Laura Linney, Kathy Bates, Agnes O’Casey and Stephen Rea into predictable, cartoonish roles and ridiculous conflicts... Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/23/23 Full Review Rae G i liked it! it was a refreshing change Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 09/04/23 Full Review Lynda Great acting and story! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/03/23 Full Review Paloma The Miracle Club was a enjoyable because of the incredible acting of Laura Linney, Maggie Smith, and Kathy Bates. The script was predictable and very surface level, so there was nothing to bite your teeth into. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 08/28/23 Full Review cathy s Boring, pointless & not realistic. Maybe delve into why after 40 years a woman is unable to forgive herself for a self abortion. Subject matter was not relatable to very many I assume. Maybe if your an Irish Catholic you may relate?!
