If I'm at the metal detectors waiting line, does it mean we have to remove shoes before, putting them back on? I mean, I recently got a new pair of hands free slip ins from Skechers and not worrying about tying them up.

      A:

If you’re TSA pre-check you can leave them on; otherwise, you’ll need to remove.

Can anyone tell me why Oakland baggage claim take so long? I've used it monthly since 2004...no one has the answer.

      A:

I found it the worst I've ever used. No one here I asked could answer.

I've gone through all major airports in the San Francisco Bay Area and this one is by far my favorite! I appreciate that it is BART accessible even if that requires a tram transfer. The transfer is easy enough but that doesn't stop me from always being a little anxious for this stretch of my commute going to the airport. I always think the tram will get me there late but that's never been the case. If going to/from via BART, make sure to have a jacket easily accessible because part of the wait is outdoors. After 7 years in the Bay, I'm finally getting better about layers. If not taking public transit, this is definitely an easier airport to be dropped off (it's only 2 terminals with one dedicated exclusively to Southwest Airlines) so no way you can get lost. It's also so much easier to pick someone up from here (in comparison to SFO).

Because it's smaller the wait time can be faster or slower... it really depends on time of day and staffing. I've always found it most packed early mornings but not enough to make me miss a flight (I can't say the same for San Francisco International). My best experiences here allow me to take advantage of their lounge which is open from 5:00 am to 8:00 pm. Otherwise, depending on the time of the day and year seats around gates can be busy and packed.

Haven't had any problems with this airport. It's small and easy to navigate. Especially easy if you have tsa precheck as the line is very quick. You don't need much advance time to get to your gate.

Parking choices in front or take the Bart. It now has an add on right to the airport. You can also easily get ride shares in front.

      Small and great airport.

I've used this airport multiple times. I haven't had an issue besides a delay but those happen.

It's definitely a smaller airport than SF but so cute. The employees are friendly, it's clean, and it has plenty of parking.

Plus, the BART is located right there for convenience.

TSA precheck was a joke. things I took international and domestic. like 8oz lotions that are TSA cleared and purchased as so. didn't make the clearance. Only at this single airport. There goes a good $18 lotion. $15 body wash. Which was purchased as TSA cleared!!!! Terrible. I'm not going to argue or make a point or say that it's been cleared at every airport, including international. just chock it up as a loss and keep it moving. I will check in everything from now on if I fly out of Oakland, so I keep my expensive and needed body creams, so I'm not ashy post covid and have protection against skin diseases and mosquitos. . Thanks, Oakland. Now I know better as a traveler here what to expect at TSA. This airport gets cramped fast. No seating when flights seemed pretty empty when loaded. Food lines are quick. There are plenty of choices for coffee or pastries. A full bar. A few restaurants. No chains, just niche places. However, great stuff. Checking has long lines. Get here early on weekends. Add +1 HOUR to your +1. Trust me! Easy to get here by Bart. It's cheaper than rideshare. Terminals are clean. Bathrooms past TSA are maintained, older though to be ready for that. Overall experience was 4 stars after ghetto security. Highly recommend this place if you follow the check in your bag standard. I'm TSA Global, and they still went through all my stuff. Be prepared for that. The cost of flying out of here outweighs the hassle of all the walking and hustle of San Francisco with all the errors, lost luggage. That says a lot....Happy Traveling grace!

It was my first time flying into Oakland from Burbank and it wasn't bad. The airport is next to the water and you get a beautiful view of it. When I landed I took the BART which is easily located with their signs. Thankfully here the bathrooms are clean and staff was great.

My experience at the Oakland Airport was incredible!

Firstly, super easy public transportation to get there. There's a tram from Bart that comes every 6 minutes!

Secondly security was not only very speedy but also incredibly nice (whatttt I know!!). I accidentally left a speaker in my backpack instead of taking it out and they were super sweet and understanding about it!

The restaurant/store selection is pretty sad once you're waiting at the gates but that's to be expected lol

Flown out of Oakland airport numerous times! Closer to home and also a smaller airport with plenty of flights including international flights. Always a smooth experience! Hardly over crowded on terminal 1.

Recently flew out of here to Los Angeles airport. I parked in the daily parking and it was so full. A great rate at $24 per night . Finally found parking and check in was smooth and got through security in 5 minutes and my gate was literarily one of the first ones.

Lastly it's got a decent amount of restaurants and shops and we got to board very quickly. They even have a Vino Volo! Highly recommend if you live in the East Bay lastly the Bart comes all the way here now so it is bartable!

The Oakland International Airport is one of my favorites because they named it after me. I have had countless flights out of OAK going to Seattle, LA, Chicago, etc. and I have always enjoyed the seamless experience of coming to this airport. It also happens to be a hub for some of the best American airlines including Southwest, Alaska, and Delta, all of which I prefer flying over many of the other garbage airlines in the country.

The airport is situated in an ideal location that is accessible to many by BART, and has an intuitive road design and parking area that is not far from the airport. I can appreciate that Oakland International is not too busy and does not take many connections to other places, causing unnecessary flight delays and overcrowding of the airport services. Generally speaking, the airport is also clean and well kept by its employees which are very nice in my experience.

I have had many good memories flying through Oakland International Airport whether it was picking up friends I had not seen in a long time, or heading to visit people I was excited to see. I hope I will continue to have positive experiences when I fly through this airport in the future.

Love this airport. The lines are never extremely long and security tsa check point is super fast. They updated parts of the airport with more shops and restaurants.

To get Ubers/Lyfts you have to cross the street. Super simple! You also can take the Bart as well.

I mostly fly southwest from here and never have an issue. Love how they have a few bars on site too!

Anyone HATE San Francisco Intl Airport? Try Oakland.

I'm sitting here now, waiting for our plane. When I fly, it's almost always been from or to OAK. SFO is famous for its delays, and SJC is inconvenient to get to. OAK, in contrast, has flights all over the world, can be reached via BART, and is easy to navigate. So I use OAK.

There are two terminals, and one is only Southwest Airlines. If you love Southwest, this is the airport for you.

It's smaller, but absolutely not a rinky-dink operation. It has everything: car rental, long- and short-term parking, restaurants, long security line.

If you're tired of the mess at SFO, this is the airport to use. I gotta go soon, our plane to HOU is getting ready to board.
