England's Euro 2020 heartbreak is 'being made into a NEW documentary this year' with Netflix set to revisit unedifying scenes involving ticketless fans gatecrashing Wembley and Three Lions' penalty pain
- England's agonising wait for a major trophy continued after the Euro 2020 final
- Italy triumphed against the Three Lions on penalties in the final at Wembley
- And now the game will be made into a movie for Netflix, to be released this year
- The game was also preluded by thousands of ticketless fans trying to get in
- And 2,000 of them managed to sneak into the stadium for England's defeat
England's heartbreaking Euro 2020 final loss to Italy - and the chaos surrounding it - is reportedly being made into a Netflix documentary set to air later this year.
The Three Lions had a chance to win their first major trophy since 1966 as they hosted Italy at Wembley on July 11, 2021, but fell on penalties after Luke Shaw gave them the lead just two minutes in.
Now, that dramatic final is set to be relived through 'user-generated content, archive and interviews,' according to Deadline.
England were first to score but fell on penalties by a score of 3-2 in front of the Wembley fans
The website says production company Rogan Productions has put forth a callout to interview people who attended the game.
While the match was a memorable one, it was preluded by hugely chaotic scenes beforehand as thousands of ticketless fans clashed with stewards and tried to gain access to the stadium.
The Metropolitan Police reported 51 arrests connected to the final, which 2,000 fans without tickets managed to break into.
Leonardo Bonucci (centre) scored the equalising goal to eventually force penalties in the game
Thousands of ticketless fans showed up to watch the game, England's first final in 55 years
And 2,000 fans illegally gained access to the stadium with the stewards having their hands full
The scenes resulted in England being slapped with a two-game stadium ban (one suspended) and paying a £84,500 fine.
On the pitch, England ceded control of the game when Leonardo Bonucci equalised in the 67th minute, though the Three Lions spent much of the game before that camped in their own half.
Gareth Southgate's team would go on to lose via penalties, with Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Bukayo Saka all missing from the spot.
The movie, which is currently untitled, joins Netflix's sports documentaries: Sunderland 'Til I Die; Drive to Survive; and Last Chance U.
