Mason Greenwood has reportedly met with Manchester United chiefs to discuss his departure from the club.

Erik ten Hag's team reported to Carrington on Monday to begin their pre-season preparations ahead of the first full campaign since part-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe took over football operations.

With the return of the Premier League fast approaching, the club have already set about identifying their transfer targets for the summer.

However, one player that will not continue their career at Old Trafford after spending last season out on loan is Greenwood.

According to a report from The Athletic, Greenwood reported to the United's training ground on Monday for a short meeting regarding a move away from his boyhood club and did not train before leaving.

It is said that there was not expectation that Greenwood would train, and that he will not join up with the squad whilst his exit is worked on.

Greenwood has not played for United since a 1-0 win over West Ham more than two-and-a-half years ago.

He had previously been charged with attempted rape, assault, and coercive behaviour in January 2022 after a series of harrowing images and voice recordings were shared online.

However the charges were dropped on February 2023 by the Crown Prosecution Service following the withdrawal of key witnesses. Greenwood has denied any wrongdoing.

United were reported to have considered plans to reintegrate him into the side last summer, before ultimately abandoning them and allowing him to join La Liga side Getafe on loan.

Greenwood impressed at the Estadio Coliseum, netting 10 goals and notching six assists in all competitions as he was named the club's player of the season.

A number of European clubs remain keen on signing the one-cap England international this summer, with Marseille reportedly leading the race to secure his signature.

United have also held discussions with Serie A side Lazio over a potential £40million deal including add-ons.
