England fans were disappointed after spotting what Gareth Southgate and some of his players did with their runners-up medals.

Southgate's side were left frustrated after being beaten 2-1 by Spain in the Euro 2024 final.

Following a goalless first half, Spain had taken the lead just after the break through Nico Williams.

England equalised as Cole Palmer found the net but Mikel Oyarzabal netted the winner for Spain late on.

Following the game the England players and staff were presented with runners-up medals.

However, many of the England stars, including manager Gareth Southgate, elected to take their medals off immediately after they were placed around their neck.

Jude Bellingham, Cole Palmer and Kyle Walker were amongst the players that were seen removing their medals.

That prompted a backlash from England fans on social media, some of whom accused the stars of being 'disrespectful'.

One user claimed that removing the medals was 'not a good look'. They wrote: 'I hate this trend of immediately taking off the runner-up medals. People have gone to the effort of presenting you with them. It’s not a good look.'

In addition, one user suggested that choosing to remove the medals was disrespectful. They wrote: 'i know second sucks, but i seriously salute the england players who keep their medals on rather than immediately removing them. its still a big achievement and i think taking them off is just disrespectful tbh'.

One fan added that the England stars were setting a bad example for young supporters with their actions.

They wrote: 'Here we go again - @England players receiving their medals and taking it off you ungrateful sods. Kids all over watching their ‘idols’ doing that because they lost?! Get in the bin.'

Another supporter stated that the England players were sore losers.
