It’s been such a natural fit for an org like Centre for Public Impact to collaborate with WonderLab on a Melbourne DesignWeek offering! We both love learning and a few things have really made a more mutual learning posisble. 💡Generosity of ideas and a clear commitment to working in relational, creative and affirming ways, (which seems to be part of the dna of how WonderLabbers show up in engagements), means we build/maintain relationships, and can have more trust in eachother, curiosity about differences in opinion, and give and receive feedback well. 📆I think having the scheduled time available with the explicit intent of testing ideas and getting feedback is one of the most impactful and easy to implement hacks to build a culture of learning. It’s also bloody hard to protect space and time for learning and build habits as a team. 3….? I’m super curious what others are doing to develop practice, and hold space for learning from and with eachother. What’s your favorite tip, or something you’ve seen done well?!

I recently had the pleasure of listening to an inspiring TED Conferences Talk by architect and building tech innovator Doris Sung, titled "How Buildings Can Improve Life." Doris Sung presents a compelling vision for reimagining building facades as active contributors to urban life and public health. In this talk, Doris showcases innovative technologies that go beyond aesthetics to address critical issues such as pollution, energy efficiency, and urban heat islands. We need to think about architecture that is supportive rather than stigmatising.   This is the message from Swedish architect and lecturer in architecture and urban design, Dr. Jonas E. Andersson, when it comes to architecture for elderly people with dementia.   In order to succeed, we need to work much more with notions of familiarity and the feeling of ''home''. The intersection of health sciences and the built environment is where the magic happens! Recently, I had the chance to explore this intersection at UPenn Stuart Weitzman School of Design's executive program, starting with biclimactic design. It's amazing how practical applications in health sciences can take you further in the built environment industry, and vice versa. I am thrilled to announce that I will be a keynote speaker at the **9th International Academic Conference on Places and Technologies**, taking place in Pécs from July 8th to 9th, 2024. Beauty is no longer enough to judge the built environment. What's the role of an architect in the face of today's most pressing issues, such as climate change and excessive urbanisation? Are architects a blessing or a curse? My keynote will focus on the responsibility of architects to go beyond mere aesthetics and make informed decisions to ensure that their work makes a positive contribution to sustainability, resilience and societal well-being. As urbanization continues to accelerate, the need for sustainable, liveable urban spaces becomes ever more urgent. The conference will focus on #humancentered design and foster interdisciplinary discussions on methodologies and ideas that enhance the liveability of our built environment. The Humanise campaign's public opinion research brings to light two pivotal findings: people not only recognise the connection between architecture and their wellbeing, but they also place significant importance on how buildings look and the emotions they stir. Here, Shona from Blackpool offers a firsthand account of her felt reaction to buildings she encounters day to day. At the core of the Humanise movement is the belief that emotion defines our humanity. We think that we need to be asking: How do buildings make us feel? What impact do they have on our emotions? Are we creating an environment that allows people to feel safe, happy, and included? In the words of Juhani Pallasmaa, “Modernist design at large has housed the intellect and the eye, but it has left the body and the other senses, as well as our memories, imagination and dreams, homeless.” (The Eyes of the Skin: Architecture and the Senses). What influence do indoor climate, air quality, architecture and work organisation have on the recovery of patients in hospitals? 🏥 Scientists from #TUBraunschweig, Technische Universität Berlin and Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin are investigating this in an interdisciplinary research project. "The influence of building structures on the health of patients is often underestimated," says Prof. Wolfgang Sunder from the Institute of Construction Design, Industrial and Health Care Building (IKE) at TU Braunschweig. The location of a building alone is relevant, for example when it comes to the risk of heat stress.
