down goes michigan, odds take a hit
Don't act surprised. We all knew the Wolverines weren't going to look like a true returning National Championship program. Ahead of Week 2, Sherrone Moore was +155 to see the CFP. Then, the Longhorns came to town and showed no mercy snagging the 31-12 victory. Now, the Wolverines are +550 to make the playoffs.
As of right now, Michigan has three ranked matchups left on its slate -- USC (Week 4), Oregon (Week 9) and Ohio State (Week 12). It's not looking good.
notre dame messed everything up
If you know me, you know I was banking on the Irish this year. The conference realignment curated an easy schedule for Notre Dame, who took down Texas A&M in Week 1 and were sitting in an ideal position.
Then, they screwed it all up.
An upset to Northern Illinois, are you freaking kidding me? The two-point defeat severley dropped Marcus Freeman's group from -360 favorites to see the CFP to +350.
Sure, an easy schedule still remains with Louisville (Week 5) and USC (Week 12) the only two tests. But, the committee is going to laugh at that loss to the Huskies.
ohio state buckeyes, Massively favored to make cFP
The Ohio State Buckeyes are one of the heaviest favorites to clinch a playoff berth at -750 odds. It would be their sixth appearance in the CFP-era.
As if there was any doubt, the Buckeyes breezed through Akron, 52-6, in their season debut. Then, they steamrolled through WMU, 56-0, in Week 2. Sure, not the toughest competition, but definitely solidified their offensive talent.
After pocketing over 500 passing yards and five total touchdowns through the opening two weeks, Ryan Day is feeling good about his decision to grab Kansas State's Will Howard out of the portal. Meanwhile, TreVeyon Henderson and Quinshon Judkins are sharing the backfield well, piecing together 294 yards and five touchdowns combined.
The Big 10 is getting tougher with Oregon, Washington, UCLA and USC joining. But, Ohio State isn't in danger -- with only the Ducks on their regular season slate this year.
