My least favorite of the Domestic Trilogy and of Tarr's oeuvre. I find it bland and uninteresting. It seemed unintentionally messy and quickly slapped together (by Tarr's standards; the film is quite exceptional compared to those coming out in the 1980s).

It is a right dicision to go for black and white. Making this movie in colors takes a away a lot of weight. I love how the movie is in fragments (rough transitions made possible by shock cut), it gives a texture of life. The movie also give an insightful portrayal of how life can sometimes get the better of us. But yeah, I still love the later Tarr more.

A young slacker type uses music to escape his economic problems. I don't mind Tarr's early socio-realist movies, even though (like Polanski and Kieslowski and other Eastern Bloc types) his work improves as his artistic sensibilities mature. There's not a whole lot to this movie, but it's very watchable with good performances, good dialogue, and good music.
