A Million Little Things: Season 1 Reviews

That last episode pours its heart out about Jon, but I think we just hit the tip of that iceberg too. The man has some more stuff to reveal, I am sure of it.

A Million Little Things instead sprawls in a million different directions and blows almost a million opportunities while balancing on the precipice of sheer soap.

The cast keeps this show grounded but it's the show's ability to tackle tough subjects in a satisfying way that makes it truly stand out.

A Million Little Things draws you in and, thanks to a couple more wait-what-just-happened moments in the first hour, persuades you that there might be enough more than meets the eye to this series to make a longer term relationship viable.

Weepy drama explores mature themes like suicide, infidelity.

Full Review | Original Score: 3/5 | Oct 3, 2018

This ABC series commits gaffes on several fronts, beginning with its blatant attempt to clone This Is Us or, more to the point, to get people similarly hooked on its ability as a crying laxative.

Full Review | Oct 2, 2018

Even though the cast is decent, the characters don't immediately pop because the writing lacks nuance.

Get ready to hear the cliché "everything happens for a reason" a million (little) times because, that's pretty much the central thesis to ABC's new sentimental, tear-jerker drama.

A Million Little Things could've been conceived by an algorithm programmed to synthesize popular TV shows...though there's reason to hope A Million Little Things will keep getting better.

[It] has a great story to tell. While touching on the sensitive, current subject of suicide, it is also seeking answers to why people commit suicide, as well as trying to find a positive side to help relatives of victims cope with their loss.

I strongly disliked the pilot episode... But it's dramatically evolved into a compelling soap opera. It's a heartfelt character-driven drama about a close-knit group of friends with secrets.

There's no crying in hockey -- unless you're the bros who wear their broken hearts on their jersey sleeves in A Million Little Things, ABC's tear-stained and soapily addictive answer to This Is Us.

A Million Little Things Season 1 Episode 1 probably had you reaching for your phone around the same time it had you reaching for a box of tissues.

Full Review | Original Score: 4.8/5 | Sep 27, 2018

It's like a murder-mystery dinner but stretched beyond one evening.

Full Review | Original Score: C+ | Sep 27, 2018

There's enough there to keep watching, but the pilot puts the show on shaky ground right away.

Full Review | Sep 27, 2018

But putting all that heavy lifting into the pilot suggests A Million Little Things may well mature into a more emotionally fulfilling and entertainingly soapy adult drama as the season moves on.

Full Review | Sep 27, 2018

One thing A Million Little Things doesn't do so far is unduly dawdle. Revelations and recriminations come at a fast pace.

Full Review | Original Score: B- | Sep 27, 2018

It's... sprinkled with humor that pulls it back from the cliff. And it's a story well-acted and well-told, its cast folding together like fingers in a glove.

Full Review | Sep 26, 2018

A very good cast and a steady vein of humor keep [it] watchable, while the fetishizing of death and a failure to generate consistent complementary emotions keep it from rising above a well-intentioned slog, a derivative Thirtysomething Reasons Why.

It confuses soundtrack for story.
