Crossing Swords: Season 1 Reviews

I really enjoyed this: the voice talent is spot on, and the writing, though coarse, is very witty. Here’s hoping season two arrives soon.

Occasionally, the character design is adorable: one is killed in a cursed iron maiden and returns as a classic white ghost with a sweet little face; if Hulu makes him into a toy, I will buy one. But generally it just looks cheap and jerky

Nonstop crass humor, language in animated medieval fantasy.

Crossing Swords may just be the heir apparent to Robot Chicken. As far as new, creative, original animated series go, Crossing Swords is one of the year's best.

When all is said and done, Crossing Swords is only worth the binge if you're looking for the the humor that Robot Chicken is known for with even more sex jokes and less nuance.

"Crossing Swords" has so much happening around its edges that it's almost more satisfying to watch all this debauchery on mute.

It asks viewers to spend 10, 22-minute episodes in its debauched fantasy universe with nothing more to offer than an endless parade of Peg People doing naughty things.

If you miss the anxious, claustrophobic feeling of getting bullied in middle school, 'Crossing Swords' will scratch that itch raw.

But Crossing Swords doesn't just give the impression of being something of a relic. It's also a lazy one.

"Swords" is occasionally funny but more often settles for outrageous, which may work to a degree the first time, but grows tiresome and dull in repetition.

Crossing Swords' animation style and its dynamic cinematography are its strengths to be sure.

A smarter show would burrow into the disillusionment as a rookie squire learns his dream is rotten on the inside, but there's simply no time, what with all the circumcision gags that need to be made.

Crossing Swords is more like the adult-oriented version of Playmobil: The Movie, trying to recreate a successful formula without understanding what made it work.

Crossing Swords is an enjoyable comedy series, but it seems pulled in many different directions that muddle the bigger picture.

Even the jokes that land mostly emphasize how complacent the series is to coast on its crassness.
