Estimates to fix the walls far exceeded the cost of the insulation so now I'm spening my summer fixing the mess they left. Lots of hot work and hard feelings. Be very careful before you agree to this type of insulation tecnique. I was promised it would look great and they would have the walls looking good and it continues to be a disaster!!

The drywall mud used for patching requires up to 24 hours to dry, and sanding down is typically a step carried out in the painting process, which falls under the painter’s responsibilities. SDI Insulation, Inc.Jul 24, 2023Previous reviewI don't like writing poor reviews, however thought this one is necessary due to the fact that my experience with SDI insulation has created many hours of unwanted repair work for me this summer.
We needed our old house insulated and after the standard bidding process, decided to go with SDI. Because this was going to be blown into the exterior walls cavities, I was a bit nervous about the patching after the job was done. I was assured that the crew would patch each hole made and all we would need to do afterwards is paint and it would look fine.
I didn't expect perfect, as our walls were not perfect prior to the job, but I did expect "fine", which I interpreted as perhaps I would notice the holes if I looked for them.
The process their crew used for our house was to use a hole punch to knock out a 2" hole in each bay at the top and bottom to blow in the insulation. They did a good job cleaning up afterwards, however, I noted the patch jobs were not done that well. I called the project manager and he sent a couple guys back the next day. It was late in the afternoon and they were on their way home from a days work, so were not too enthusiastic about doing a thorough job. They were gone pretty quick and I thought that was that. I surveyed the house and noted their process had also lifted old sheetrock nails. It looked pretty bad and their patch jobs were even worse than the day of the job. I let it ride for a few months, and finally, with the change in daylight hours and new angles of lighting, I noted how really awful it looked on every wall. I was very frustrated, noting how horrible our walls looked when the sun shone on them just "wrong".
I called back to let them know this review was coming to give them another opportunity to possibly compensate for this. A contact stated they wanted to make it right, however after I'd sent pictures detailing the problems the communications dropped away. I think they saw how horrible it looked and just cut their losses for good customer service. So here I am, patching every bay of every exterior wall they insulated. The good bid has turned out to be a huge summer project for me, just so my walls can look as if they hadn't been in a war zone. I'm also going to need to paint the walls too. The insulating results are pretty good, but if you want your walls to look presentable, the amount of follow-up work required afterwards is DEFINITELY NOT WORTH IT! I was very disappointed that I wasn't offered any compensation at all. We are going to have under our house insulated, and although it isn't the same sort of work, based on our previous experience, I definitely won't be asking SDI to bid the job.
36826May 8, 2024Highly recommend. Years ago we had SDI remove some asbestos in our home and they did a fine job. Recently, we contacted them for wall insulation (blow in). Kyle came out to estimate and later Dennis helped with a few additional questions. We are beyond happy with the results! Our home is quieter (we live near the flight path for SFO) and stays cooler in the Summer and keeps the heat in the cold. Our only regret is that we didn't do it sooner. We were aware we would be left with the painting to do so our painter is on his way to texture and paint. This was so much more cost effective than doing this project from the outside (siding removal). Great experience and good customer service.

We had a gas insert fireplace installation from SDI Fireplaces and we couldn't be happier. The 2 installers were professional,
courteous, and answered every question we posed. They cleaned up everything before and after installation, and took as much time as we needed to explain its use. We highly recommend Joe E and his team at SDI.

I bought this house in July, and Jack came out and looked at how bad the insulation was. In my last house, we sprayed foamed the entire attic, making it a warm, conditioned space. However, my budget is hitting differently now. So Air Sealing and Blown in Fiberglass for me. Due to even more budget constraints, I had to wait until December to get it done. Jack was on vacation, but Brett (who I worked with previously) stepped right in when I called. They had the job on the calendar in a week, and it was a two-day job. Alfredo answered all my questions and was accommodating when I requested a different material be used in the attic. The guys who came were courteous and efficient. They put a fresh tarp on my floor each day and left no trace.
I am a fan of SDI because they don't try to sell you; they make suggestions that work best for your home and budget. I couldn't be more pleased and can already feel the heat staying in my house longer. Now it's time for those windows to be replaced. Thank you again, SDI, and keep up your high-quality work.

Brett Delorenzi of SDI has guided me through this whole process of spray foam insulation, unventing my roof, and sound proofing my duplex. I do know a little about spray foam and Roxul insulation, but Brett literately took me to the next level on how Closed Cell Spay foam insulation and Roxul can work in concert. We did flash and batt in the laundry room, so no sound or cold comes into my upstairs apartment. Roxul (AFB) Acoustical Fire Board in the ceiling in the basement apartment to fire and sound separate the two apartments. We now have a very safe, very quiet, and warm duplex thanks to SDI!
The customer service has been phenomenal. Because of the rebuilding process I've had to reschedule my spray foam installation over six times. Marcella (i hope I am spelling it right) has be an absolute rock of understanding in scheduling my installations, so courteous. On the job site SDI employee's were super efficient, clean, and meticulous in getting that closed cell spray foam everywhere I had requested.
If you want insulation done right, this is the company you call in the Bay Area!

Spray foam at attic R38, they said 2 days out of my house, need to get a hotel room, after that still smell chemicals in my house.

SDI did the wall, attic and crawlspace insulation, they broke the attic entrance that was never fixed, cut the security camera wires that was never fixed or compensated. Above all they had me signed with a HERO program with undisclosed terms of financing for which I have been paying yearly along with property tax that even after 7 years my principal amount has remained the same rather increased with the undisclosed fees. All 7 years payment has gone only for interest, closing cost and other fees. The company is unreliable.

Just had spray foam for the roof bays and rockwool for the walls installed in our small ADU project out here in soggy El Granada. SDI sent Joran to see the job and give us an estimate. He returned with 24hrs with a reasonable quote. Much lower than a couple of individual contractors that I'd contacted. They got us on their schedule that week. I didn't get the spray foam teams names, but they did a quick and CLEAN install, next day Alvaro and Sergio arrived to do the Rock-wool. I was impressed at how fast and professional their work went. They exceeded my expectations. Project is done and looks great in 2days. Awesome. Thanks SDI.
