A new restaurant pairing global wines with locally sourced cuisine has opened as has a dock bar offering live music in Maryland.

MARYLAND — Marylanders looking for live music, global wines and expanded grocery options can look no further than new businesses opening up in the area.

LoonAsea Opens Dock Bar, Live Music Venue On Hopkins Creek

LoonAsea, which doubles as a live music venue, opened on Hopkins Creek just off the Middle River. The bar and grill has the same owners as the popular Looney's Pub. LoonAsea replaces River Watch Restaurant & Marina.

UPS To Close Baltimore County Warehouse, Lay Off 540 People

United Parcel Service previously laid off nearly 120 at the same Maryland location as the company works to cut costs due to falling package volumes. The shipping firm announced plans in the past week to lay off another 540 workers in the state.

Smashing Grapes Fuses Global Wines With Locally Sourced Cuisine

Smashing Grapes opened in the Merriweather District last month, bringing global wines paired with locally sourced cuisine to Howard County. The new 7000-square-foot restaurant, located across from Merriweather Post Pavilion, has been updated with indoor and outdoor dining, event spaces and a monthly all-inclusive expert-selected wine dinner offering.

The Fresh Market Grocery Store Under Construction

The exterior of The Fresh Market looks nearly complete in the Crofton Station shopping center. The facade redesign is done, and the store's sign is now mounted. The company previously told the Baltimore Business Journal it plans to open by the end of 2024. Construction has been ongoing since at least September 2023.
