'Jersey Shore' Filming Permit Request Denied In Brick

BRICK, NJ — There will be no "Jersey Shore Family Vacation" in Brick: the township refused a request for permits to film the MTV show at a township home, an official confirmed Tuesday.

Brick Township Business Administrator Joanne Bergin said the township denied the request by 495 Productions to film the show at a private home. Bergin did not specify the address but the Asbury Park Press reported the home in question is on Rochester Drive, a bayfront home in the Seaweed Harbor section of the township.

"Requests for filming at township-owned properties or public locations such as retail establishments come through administration and are typically approved with the submission of required paperwork," Bergin said Tuesday afternoon. "A request for filming at a private residence is unusual and comes to administration if that filming has the potential to impact the neighborhood or the general public."

Bergin said township officials' review of the request determined it would have the potential to negatively impact the neighborhood, "not only due to the increased activity that comes with filming a TV show, but also the enhanced traffic and presence from curious onlookers and fans of the show hoping to meet/photograph/interact with the stars of the show."

"Using the house to film a TV show is not consistent with a standard residential use," Bergin said, which was why the town turned down the request, she said.

The show is a revival of the MTV show that grabbed fans and annoyed residents after it debuted in 2009, and was criticized for its sometimes unsavory view of life in Seaside Heights. UNICO National, an Italian-American organization, called the show "trash television" before it debuted and the show was derided by Gov. Chris Christie. It aired 71 episodes before going off the air in December 2012.

The show has had a rocky relationship with Jersey Shore towns due to its popularity and also because of the criticisms of the behavior on the show. The spinoff freaturing Jenni "JWoww" Farley and Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi filmed at a private home in Manchester for a season with no apparent problems, but a move to the Pelican Island section of Berkeley Township in 2013 — when residents were still in the early days of recovering from Superstorm Sandy — brought a great deal of conflict.

The cast has grown up now. Polizzi, the youngest of the group, is 29 now, and the others all are in their 30s. Farley is 31, Sorrentino is 33 and Delvecchio is 35. Polizzi and Farley both are married and have children. Sorrentino has publicly battled an addiction to painkillers. According to a People magazine article from August, Delvecchio has become a successful DJ and has a young daughter; Cortese is engaged and works as a dog trainer; Magro, whose relationship with Giancola ended a few years ago, lives in Los Angeles, and Guadagnino has had success with the show "Vinny and Ma Eat America" on the Cooking Channel.

In June and July 2017, members of the cast got back together for a reunion show, filming in Asbury Park and Point Pleasant Beach when Seaside Heights refused to grant them permits.

The reunion show then spawned "Jersey Shore Family Vacation," which ws announced in February. They filmed Season 1 in Miami in April.

The cast filmed a "farewell to Seaside Heights" episode for two days in late June, saying the show was moving on to another Jersey Shore town. They filmed for two days midweek on the boardwalk and at the house near Kearny and Fremont avenues where the reality show took place in the past, Borough Administrator Christopher Vaz said.

Where the group will end up for Season 2 of "Jersey Shore Family Vacation" is unclear. In addition to Brick, Wildwood officials turned down a request to film in the Cape May County town.
