An essential community facility in south west Scotland will soon be more sustainable thanks to funding through a government scheme 💚 Prestwick Swimming Pool in South Ayrshire is next in line for decarbonisation and energy efficiency upgrades thanks to funding delivered through Scotland’s Public Sector Heat Decarbonisation Fund. The site is a 25 metre, four-lane pool in Prestwick that runs a variety of organised activities including aqua fit, lessons, competitive swimming and a club for less abled swimmers. South Ayrshire Council, which own the pool, support a population of around 112,000 residents and is striving to reach net zero by 2045. Councillor Martin Kilbride, portfolio holder for buildings, housing and environment, said: “We’re committed to reducing the council’s carbon emissions, and the upgrades being carried out will further enhance the user experience at this community facility as we continue on our net zero journey within South Ayrshire.” Read more: https://lnkd.in/euFFdJM2 #ScotlandsPublicSectorHeatDecarbonisationFund #SouthAyrshire #Decarbonisation #HeatDecarbonisation #NetZero #Sustainability

The Greater Manchester Combined Authority supports the ten local authorities of Greater Manchester and aims to guide these authorities through the estate decarbonisation process 💚 To support their aim to become carbon neutral by 2038, the authority have received funding for large-scale projects across the Greater Manchester area through Phase 1, Phase 3a and Phase 3b of the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme. Project measures range from LED upgrades to insulation improvements to solar installations and the replacement of gas-based, fossil fuel heating systems in favour of heat pumps. Alongside the positive outcomes in ways of carbon reduction, the authority acknowledges the importance of taking a leadership role within the community when it comes to these works, as well as the wider impact through the upskilling of the workforce and generation of jobs within the community to support the work. In the film, Sean Owen from the Greater Manchester Combined Authority, said: “If we can show leadership by investing in our own buildings, it provides community hubs, it provides future services for residents. Then, it’s also the economic impacts, and how we’re providing and supporting local jobs, skills and the wider economy.” Head to our Youtube to watch the full documentary and hear from sustainability experts at the authority, plus more success stories from the nine organisations interviewed. https://lnkd.in/e_RPQ_zR #Decarbonisation #PublicSectorDecarbonisationScheme #PSDS #Sustainability #NetZero

Young people from the West Midlands benefit from green upgrades at the regional mental health inpatient facility 💚 Parkview in Birmingham is amongst the latest buildings now benefitting from sustainability upgrades driven by a net zero 2040 ambition. The Moseley-based service, run by Birmingham Women's and Children's NHS Foundation Trust, provides inpatient care for up to 34 young people aged from 11-18 with varying support and treatment requirements. Approximately, seven out of every ten young people admitted to the facility have been identified as neurodiverse (including having Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)), and the service is one of only a small number NHS inpatient services in the country to have received an official accreditation for its consistent, high-quality care for people with ASD alongside significant mental health difficulties. Dan Saxton, head of sustainability at the trust, said: “We are hoping that Parkview will be one of the mental health facilities that is leading the way in being environmentally sustainable. “Staff can be proud of the facility they work in, and confident that they are doing their bit to tackle climate change.” #Decarbonisation #PublicSectorDecarbonisationScheme #PSDS #NetZero #Sustainability

🦇 Birds, bats, butterflies, reptiles, and sheep are among the creatures benefiting from developing a solar park in West Malling. 🌞 A 11.9-acre solar park in the south east of England is being hailed for a broad environmental focus. 🐷 Officially opened earlier in July but operational since October 2023, Kings Hill Solar Park has seen 6,480 solar panels installed on a previously redundant piece of land that used to be a landfill site and a pig farm. 🏘️ The transformed plot of land is now home to modern technology that generates the electrical equivalent of around 2.8 million kWh per year, which experts say is enough to power 750 local homes. #westmalling #kingshill #solar #solarpark #kent #kentcountycouncil #psds #decarbonisation #netzero #environmental #biodiversity https://lnkd.in/eBinC3kB

A popular university in the southwest of England is celebrating continued progress toward net zero thanks to sustainability projects made possible through a government scheme. Bournemouth University is working to reach net zero emissions across all measured activities by 2030/31. To support these ambitions, they set up an England Recycling Fund in 2010. Since inception, this fund has so far supported the delivery of 99 projects that, when combined, are expected to reduce their emissions by 1,192 tonnes of carbon dioxide every year. Energy efficiency projects at Cranfield University reduce organisational emissions by 1,919 tonnes of carbon a year 👏 To support the larger capital works programmes required to reach their 2030 net zero target, the university has invested in 15 years of energy efficiency works enabled by the England Recycling Fund. Since its Recycling Fund was first opened in 2009, Cranfield University has completed 85 projects. Projects largely centred on LED lighting upgrades 💡, which is possibly the most common technology to have received funding through the Recycling Fund in general.
