Revealed: Opta supercomputer predicts England's Euro 2024 chances after losing their 'favourites' tag - so, who are they backing between France and Spain?

England's chances of winning Euro 2024 are continuing to fade, according to a supercomputer.

England advanced to the semi-finals of the European Championships on Saturday evening after being taken to penalties by Switzerland. 

The Three Lions scored all five of their penalties as Manuel Akanji's miss proved to be the difference in Dusseldorf.  


In the lead up to the competition, Gareth Southgate's men were favourites according to the work by stats boffins Opta

But after advancing to the knockouts and beating Slovakia in the last-16, England dropped down to second favourites.

Opta have now revealed England are third favourites to win the tournament, with a 22.98 per cent chance of going all the way. 

France are the new favourites for Euro 2024 and have been given a 30.49 per cent chance despite unconvincing performances so far. 

Didier Deschamps' men beat Portugal on penalties to book their place in the last four but a French player is yet to score from open play in this tournament. 

Spain have taken England's spot as second favourites after beating hosts Germany deep into extra-time thanks to a header by Mikel Merino. 

Luis de la Fuente Castillo's impressed in the group stages and claimed nine points before thrashing Albania in the last-16. 

The Euro 2012 winners are ranked at having 30.3 per cent chance of success in Germany ahead of their showdown with France on Tuesday. 

One of the two teams therefore has to get eliminated at the semi-final stage, meaning the percentages will change drastically, likely increasing the chances of the winning side.
