  • Rain delayed Djokovic from getting out on one of the Wimbledon practice courts

Novak Djokovic gave a helping hand to a team of Wimbledon assistants as the rain finally eased to allow the Serbian to practice on Sunday afternoon.

The 37-year-old secured progression into the last-16 of the men's singles at SW19 by coming from a set down to beat Alexei Popyrin on Saturday and was keen to get back out on the court.

Morning rain prevented Djokovic and his fellow competitors from getting out on one of Wimbledon's practice surfaces before later easing in the afternoon.

Djokovic is eager to get as many training sessions under his belt as possible after recovering from injury in-time to compete at the competition but lacking the regular pre-Wimbledon preparation.

However, the serial Grand Slam champion has remained in a great mood while competing in London and demonstrated his generosity to a group of delighted workers.

Such was Djokovic's eagerness to practice that the seven-time Wimbledon winner laughed as he joined in with removing one of the protective covers on the playing surface.

A fast-paced attempt to roll up the cover saw a team of staff run across the court with Djokovic putting himself in the middle and spring alongside the amazed workers.

Amazed onlookers watched in awe as the men's tennis icon gave a helping hand while dressed in a white training top and grey shorts.

He clapped to show his appreciation for the young staff helping out as they were left star-struck following the brief encounter with a tennis legend.

Djokovic was then able to practice on the court in anticipation of his last-16 match against Holger Rune on Monday as he eyes another run to the final.

Speaking after his latest victory at Wimbledon, Djokovic said: 'I think I played a good second and third and the fourth was anybody's game. He was serving very well. It was very difficult to read his serve.

'It was just a very challenging match, mentally as well to hang in there. I'm not allowed to have too big concentration lapses. I think I've done well in that regard.'
